| snowflake224's Full Review: Honeywell EFY041 Tower Tower Fan |
Background:
My hubby and I recently returned our Honeywell Digital Tower Fan with Ionizer after being extremely disappointed with the capabilities and difficulty of use.
Usually after returning a product, we hesitate to buy another of the same brand, but the Honeywell EFY041 Tower Fan appeared to have it all.
About Honeywell:
Honeywell is one of the oldest names in home heating and cooling products. Their webpage is located at: www.honeywell.com with product descriptions at www.kaz.com.
About Honeywell EFY041 Tower Fan:
This Honeywell fan comes in white or gray to blend in any room of the house. We have the white fan, which would not have been our first choice as white things tend to dirty quickly, but it was the only option at our Target.
It is made of hard plastic and, unlike our old Honeywell, does not have a metal grill plate infront. I find that the metal plate reflects light so it is nice not to have this feature on this fan.
This fan has two height settings, which must be decided on before assembly. The first is about 33 inches with just the base and the second is 40 inches with the pedestal and the base. We decided to use the pedestal to bring the tower up from the floor. It now stands higher than our Lasko fans. The fan is quite thin taking up only 7 inches of space with a base of 11 inches in diameter.
The overall weight of the fan is 18 pounds, but the weight is proportioned well and not too difficult to move when holding it from its handle in the back.
Assembly is easy and does not require any tools. Just lay the fan on its side on the floor and connect the two halves of the pedestal (optional) and of the base. The pedestal then needs to be attached to the base and the tower. Remote control needs to be snapped open with a coin and batteries (included) added prior to closing case.
The cost of this fan is only $24.99 plus tax at Target. Features include: a remote control with flashlight, air filter, 3-speeds, breeze setting, oscillate, and an 8-hour timer.
Experience:
Space:
We switched our other fans around and set this one up in the doorway of the office. It is thin enough to move around it comfortably.
Remote:
Like the other Honeywell fan we had, the remote is unusually shaped; and looks like a video-game-controller or a football. I am use to the traditional square or rectangle-shaped remotes, and find this type awkward to hold. The remote must be held in your hand the long way with the shorter-side facing the fan.
- The options on the fan include a Flashlight on the underside, which lights up the buttons so you can see them in the middle of the night. I find that the light is a bit overpowering in the middle of the night, but what light isnt in the early morning hours.
- Power When turned off and then back on this fan will immediately function with its last setting including speed, breeze, and oscillate. The timer function will reset.
- Timer There is one button on the fan for timer. Pressing it will light up a choice of a 2, 4, 6, or an 8 hour window. Unfortunately, you will not be able to tell when the fan has an hour or a half hour or fifteen minutes left. I wish this set up was a little more like our Lasko Tower Fans, which have 1/2, 1 hour, and up settings in intervals of a half hour and a total of 12 hours.
- Breeze makes a wind like breeze, which continually starts and stops. Ive noticed when I press breeze to shut off this feature; the fan immediately sets to speed 3. I find this annoying, although I rarely use the breeze setting
- Oscillate Starts a rotation of the fan, which is about a 180 degree radius. I find that oscillate on this fan moves slower than my Lasko fans. I like this because the fan is thus quieter and cools me on its passing much easier than whizzing back and forth. The only downside of this feature, which is similar on all Honeywell Tower Fans that I have used, is: if you want to stop or start the oscillating, you must point the remote right at the front of the fan. If the fan is not pointing directly in your direction, you must get up to change the setting.
On the Fan:
The fan has all the same buttons as the remote. They are set up in a line across the front of the fan. Also across the front of the fan is the display, so you will know, from across the room, the speed, or other functions set on the fan.
Noise Control/Cooling Capabilities
This fan is not as quiet as my Lasko fans, but is not loud either. I can generally here videos or music over the fan, although my computer volume does have to be turned up a little higher when the fan is on.
This fan does a better job cooling than any other tower fan I have owned. Speed 1 on this fan is equivalent to speed 3 on my Lasko fans. The air filter in the back of the fan helps provide slightly purer air and overall I receive a little burst of winter every time my Honeywell is facing me. Also, because of its ability to cool, I find I run it less than my other fans.
Final Thoughts:
I am extremely happy with our Honeywell EFY041 Tower Fan. In comparison to the other Honeywell Tower Fan we owned, I definitely believe less is more.
This fan cools wonderfully. The sound will not drown out conversations. All features have their own button, making the remote easy to use. Also, the display on the fan is in the front and easy to read from across the room, even in the middle of the night. This fan appears more durable and steady than other tower fans I have owned.
Overall, I still love my Lasko Tower fans, but after only a few days of owning this Honeywell, it has worked its way into my heart. I would not hesitate choosing this product again if and when we need another tower fan.
Be Cool with:
