My wife suffers from allergies, and before we bought the Honeywell model 17000 air cleaner, she would go for weeks having trouble sleeping because of the coughing and sneezing.

The night we "installed" the air cleaner, she got a good night sleep. It has been running continuously for 6 months, without any problems. Her allergy problems are almost completely gone.

It is sitting on the floor inconspicuously under a table at the foot of the bed in a 200 square foot room. We do not keep the door closed. The room, like most of the rest of the house is carpeted. What I am saying is that we don't take any extraordinary effort to keep the dust down, other than normal housekeeping, and keeping the central air conditioner filter changed.

The Honeywell just sits on the floor and silently does its job. An indicator light comes on every couple of months to let me know to change the pre - filter. This job consists of loosening one screw by hand - no tools needed- and removing the filter unit. The pre filter wraps around the HEPA drum filter, and is held on with velcro. Unwrap the pre filter, shake it out and you are done.

This unit really performs as advertised. We had bought another brand, but it was so noisy that we couldn't sleep for the noise. We took it back, and before buying the Honeywell, we listened to it and several others in the store. It was clearly the quietist.
