| Arabian_Oven's Full Review: Hong Kong Restaurant |
Naturally, as a Chinese, I tend to have higher standards regarding Chinese food. The Hong Kong is everything a Chinese does not want to see outside of Asia nor anywhere else. Food is too fatty, greasy and MSG loaded. Maybe it is because I am also a surgeon that I notice if a place is somewhat clean or not. In Asia it can be a matter of getting hepatitis A or not, so it makes one look out for red flags somewhat automatically. The elderly waiter does not make someone confident that every measure is taken to guarantee a clean environment, besides being not very friendly or patient when ordering. Of course, its my subjective impression but opinions are always subjective. Just looking at ones hands will give me a pretty good idea about a person because I have to wash my hands many times a day for 5 minutes each time. The rundown interior and food quality is reflected in the pricing too, which is almost at Chinatown level but never reaching its better food quality. Honestly, I am more confident eating out of disposable dishes in Chinatown than at the Hong Kong, if the food is just done right. Nothing tasted anywhere near being fresh, but again, this can not be expected at this price around Harvard Square. So, you always get what you pay for, sometimes less. If you are looking for oriental food near Harvard Square go to the 'Pho Pasteur' where you get fresh Vietnamese/Chinese food, good service and a clean comfortable environment for a very fair price, maybe $ 3-5 more only. If you want to have more good and cheap Chinese food to choose from, invest $ 0.85 for a token and take the redline T (subway) to Downtown Crossing to get to Chinatown.
