Price and budget are often relevant components when we confuse or blur the lines between price and value. While either are relative to our needs, one should always consider quality, as the most important component in the equation. Given that our money is stretched to meet so many other facets of our lives, expendable income becomes a critical point from which we determine just how much value we want or better yet, can afford. Given the challenging economic times it's hard for many of us to think in terms of buying luxury items such as an expensive guitar or expensive guitar accessories. We often are forced to look for alternatives but should always keep in mind that there are always better options on the market than meet the eye; such is the case with Hosa 6” Effects Cable.
Hosa 6” Effects Cable are about as decent a value that you’re going to find the musical accessory market today. The molded in right angled 24 gauge cables are probably not as quiet as most cable on the market, however, you might hard-pressed to find a better cable at this price point.
Tone suck is a huge concern especially when interconnecting effects pedals. While I'm not going to say that these this cable doesn't affect your tone, it does also react differently with different pedals and board arrangements. The nickel plated plugs offer efficient signal transfer while the oxygen free copper shielded conductors provide good protection from EMI or electromagnetic interference as well as well as RMI radio magnetic interference. That is not to say that under the proper conditions and without a good line and conditioner you're not going to experience some level of EMI or RMI interference, you will. However, considering the street price of under $12 for a pack of six you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value for effects interconnect cable, much less six.
The one area of compromise and perhaps a caveat would probably be service life. If you would treat these gingerly they will undoubtedly give you longer service life however, again you have to consider value and price. Built in strain relief offer some protection against wear.
The Hosa 6” Effects Cable are not boutique cables and shouldn't be held to the same standard but, they can be considered good backups or for the beginning guitarist or a great starting point for a beginner or budget conscious musician to build an inexpensive effects board. No, it’s not the best option but for under $12.00 it would be a challenge to find a better value!
