Pros: size, moto-massage, lighting
Cons: treating the water can be tricky; some of the salesmen
We got our 2005 Grandee Hot Spring Spa (7 person) at the Iowa State Fair (August 2005). There were several companies there demonstrating their spas so it was nice to compare the models all under one building. I felt the salesmen were really aggressive and especially the Hot Springs salesmen. Actually, I was so turned off by the way that they were downgrading the competitors that I left the demonstration with no intentions whatsoever of buying from Hot Springs. I felt they were trying to keep me from buying another spa instead of selling me on their spa. It was in poor taste, in my opinion. My husband loved the company and knew how well they were reviewed and talked me into giving them another chance. We asked for another salesperson and the second one was much better.
The Hot Springs spas had better insulation and I liked the set up of the grandee. I thought I really wanted a lounge seat but after I did a wet test I realized that I didnt like it as much as I thought I would.
Tip: do a wet test!! It is important to get in the tub and see how you feel in it. Also, dont get out right away. If you find one that you feel comfortable in make sure to stay in there long enough to make sure that you like the way the jets feel.
Installation was a breeze. We had to have our electrician there because they will not wire it even though we already had the equipment from our last tub. Their company sent two men who set it up and filled it. They gave us a box of chemicals and taught me how to use them. They were very thorough and patient.
There was a small chip on the outside. It was mostly hidden but after spending $10,000 I felt I had to mention it. The company called me and offered to replace it. I didnt feel that was necessary I just wanted them to fix it. Apparently, they cant fix it. They offered me money and will have the installer come blend it so there are not any rough edges.
The Grandee has a waterfall (called wellspring) that is very relaxing and beautiful at night. I really like the light feature called Luminescence. It changes colors and really sets the atmosphere. We got the pearl shell and I think it is just perfect. It really reflects and absorbs the color of the lights so it is beautiful at night. It is very easy to clean up even though it is light colored.
There are two moto-massagers (ours is a moto-massage dx) that roll the water up and down your spine. It really feels great. You can control the power of the jets. Right above the moto-massager are jets that massage your shoulders and neck. Also, I can get a foot massage and calf massage from this seat. This is my favorite place.
My son really likes the soothing 7 jets. It is a jet with 7 smaller areas that really packs some power. He can massage his feet from here also.
The precision jets are nice too. There are 26 jets that are small jets that massage the full back area. You can control the power. At full power there is too much power for me but I can turn the lever and its perfect.
The music system is great but at $1500 we decided to wait. I hope it goes down in time for Christmas. When the tub was demonstrated it was in a dark room with all the lights and the music. It was really nice. But not $1500 nice.
The cover and the lifter are great. I dont have a problem getting into the spa by myself. Before the cover was too heavy and I had a heck of a time getting it back on. We got the covercradle. We liked this one because they didnt have to put a hole in the cover to anchor it.
We got the FreshWater Ozone system that neutralizes the bad stuff in the water. We still have to use chemicals and keep the water balanced but this is supposed to help. I am not sure if it helps or not.
There is a 5 year no-fault warranty on the heater.
