Cutting gels, fat burners, subcutaneous fat expulsion gimmicks and products designed to show off muscular development make up a small but growing section of sports supplementation. Hot Stuff is marketed as a cutting product meaning the last phase of a body building or fitness cycle. A vast majority of the time these products are used by people who are entering a competition and need to blast off a little bit of fat, are holding water [retaining water] or need extreme muscle striation. Call it vanity, call it narcissism, call it ego masturbation its something that almost every single competitor does on one level or another. Diuretics, self induced vomiting and gray area products are usually reserved for the pro card holders or those that are shooting at getting their pro card, for the rest of the pack, these widely available, over the counter products are a less costly venture and in the end provide almost the same results.
Vasodilation Making Veins Happy
Having healthy veins is one of the necessities of a properly functioning body. We all know what happens when arteries get clogged blood flow is limited and can result in severe health issues. Products like Hot Stuff arent to be used haphazardly. It is your responsibility as a consumer to read the label, instructions and warnings before you use it. You are essentially applying a product that will heat up the subcutaneous layer of fat and underlying muscle grouping to enlarge the veins, making blood flow quicker and allowing more oxygen to be transported to muscles during a work out. This can lead to dehydration, muscle cramps and other health issues if not applied correctly or if treated with a lackadaisical attitude.
If you are still a little confused by the term vasodilation break it down. vasodilation / vasodilatation same meaning, different tense.
Vaso Latin for vein.
Dilation Expanding or enlarging from normal size.
For all intents and purposes, its the opposite of vasoconstriction, the act of making a vein smaller or reducing its size. Products that are pimped for their vasodilation qualities are doing nothing more than temporally enlarging the veins for increased blood flow. Vasoconstriction isnt something that should be played with under any circumstances and is usually deemed as a medical condition rather then a medication however there are some medications that do force the body into a vasoconstricitve state including cough syrups, antihistamines and forms of pseudoephedrine.
Directions
First off, if you are just using this to look good for an event, vacation or night out on the town, you should make yourself aware of the possible side effects that this could have on you. You are raising your body temperature, not just in sections like you would with spot fat reducers like NutraSport Cutting Gel. This means that you are going to be sweating a lot. The effects of this can last anywhere from a few hours to as many as six depending on the amount you apply, your bodys internal metabolism and tolerance to heat, the temperature around you and your body fat level. When I used this I was dripping sweat for about two hours and while its always great to crack a sweat, when you have to wring your socks out its overkill.
Before you use this, make sure your hands and parts of the body you are applying this to are clean and free of any lotions, oils or sweat. Youll want it to have a good contact point and be able to get to the areas that need a little attention. Oils, grease and lotions could create a barrier that will slow down the process which means you wont get the full benefit of this product. I suggest using latex gloves when applying this so your hands will be free of the product, this isnt a necessity but it sure helps. The sprayer pumps out a good bit so dont over do it when applying this. Personally, I find its better to have someone else apply it so you can get an even coating. Apply this before a work out or cardio session to see the best results but remember to stop periodically, rest and rehydrate yourself.
This is a non-staining formula but you shouldnt wear your best work out clothes when using this since you will be sweating like a pig. Ive never had any trouble with this leaving any type of mark on my clothing but since you are sweating, you will have mineral deposits locked into your clothing so you will need to wash them thoroughly or end up with stain marks. If you are going to be using this when posing or practicing a routine where you will be flexing your muscles, remember that you need to be extremely careful that you dont over do it and injure your muscles. Since your elevating your temperature youll have a little more flexibility and that can lead to harming the muscles youve invested a lot of time in building.
Ingredients
C12-15: [Alkyl Benzoate] Acts as a stabilizer and helps to keep all the ingredients in solution. Also acts as a lubricant to make the product easy to apply.
Alcohol Benzoate: Added as a thickening agent as well as an aromatic, helps to moisturize skin and keep it from drying out after the compound is applied..
Methyl Salicylate: [oil of wintergreen] One of several ingredients that are used for both scent and heating properties.
Oil of Cassia: [Cinnamomum Cassia] A herb that helps to curtain some of the side effects that users may have including diarrhea and muscle cramps. This ingredient is why there is a do not use if pregnant warning on the label.
Vasculex: Propriety blending of blend of methyl nicotinate, and methylsalicylate to help temporarily increase the blood flow in treated areas.
wheat germ oil
Mink Oil: Added as a moisturizer as well transporting the solution through the pores of the body instead of the skin, this leads to a faster rate of absorption and allows it to start working quicker resulting in a longer burn.
Retinol Palmitate: Generally used for anti-aging ointments and creams, its application in this product is for its antioxidant claims and as a transport through subcutaneous fat layers.
Who Needs This
Well, truthfully, no one really needs this. Its pure vanity, wanting to take what you have built and chiseling off just a little more fat, pulling out muscles and reducing water under the skin. It goes without saying that a majority of gym goers wont ever have a use for this type of product. You have to be in tip top shredded condition for this product to be effective so if you are carrying more than five or six extra pounds, save your money and invest in this at later time. Bodybuilders of all levels can benefit from this but it is a dangerous proposition. Youve already dieted down, trimmed off excess fat, limited your water intake for prejudging and are probably extremely irritable. Applying something like this might give you an advantage over others on the stage but you have to think about the long term effects and how long it will take for your body to rebound from the increased body temperature, additional loss of water [which may be pulled from muscle tissue [not good] and the possibility of passing out and cramping. So, is it worth it? When youve invested a tremendous amount of time and have made sacrifices to get on the stage to most people it is. There is no last minute cure for a few extra pounds or striations not being sharp and prominent that is what dieting and cutting phases are for. If you have to start using this 24 hours before a show chances are you shouldnt be slipping on the thong and posing in front of a crowd of people.
Warnings
This is labeled as a competition formula and carries a lot of rules, instructions and warnings. It is in your best interest to read them, become familiar with how the ingredients work and the side effects that can occur. Just like products that contain ephedrine, people abuse cutting products to the point that they are putting themselves in danger. Will this kill you? Im not a doctor so all I can do is tell you the warnings and what to look for how you choose to use this is your own business however you should use this responsibly, you wouldnt want a pack of rabid, hungry meat necks showing up at your house because you passed out at the gym and started an investigation about it .. now would you?
My Experience
Ive used this about ten times over the past year or so and have never had any major problems with it. The worst side effect is the sweating. I did get a little dizzy on one occasion when I didnt have enough water on hand to rehydrate myself. The first few times I used this I was curious to see exactly what it would do for someone with my athletic frame and size. It was applied to my hamstrings, thighs and abdominal area by a friend at the gym and within three minutes I started to feel it starting to work. At first it feels like a tingling sensation then you feel the heat. It isnt something that is overwhelming but I have a large frame so smaller folks might feel like they are burning up. I experimented a little with it once I felt comfortable with it and found that no matter how much you apply, youll still get the same heat rush from it. Translation dont super coat yourself with this thinking that it will work better, all youll be doing is wasting it. I wasnt preparing for a competition or trying to get cut for bikini season, I was just curious if it worked or not.
The Bottom Line
I can say that this product does work but it isnt something that everyone can or will benefit from. It isnt made for extreme weight loss, if they have a thin layer of fat that exercise hasnt been able to tackle, then you can give this a try. There are no guarantees that this will work for you, each person is different just because it worked for a 300 pound gym rat doesnt mean that youll have the same results. Its extremely important to read the warnings, familiarize yourself with the ingredients and look out for warning signs of heat exhaustion. When used correctly this can be a great cutting tool, used improperly it can be dangerous and ruin all the hard work you put into preparing for a competition.
