Pros: Durable, Light-weight, heats up fast, long chord
Cons: annoying squeak that won't go away
I purchased this hot tools 1 ¼” curling iron a couple years ago for a homecoming dance. I have always had very thick, long, wavy hair and it does not stay curled at all. I’ve had it curled multiple times professionally and the curls fall out within an hour of getting them done. I’ve even gotten a perm that didn’t even last a day. I was very skeptical when I purchased this curling iron; I had never bought one before and had no idea what brands were good and what weren’t. After 2 hours of curling my hair and 4 hours of lots of dancing I was in love. Unlike my make-up that was down my face after the dance my hair was still curled and looked great.
What goes in to this curling iron let’s take a look:
On Amazon.com you can find this curling iron for $40-$20. On a beauty website you can find it for $60-$30. Either way this curling iron is cheap, when you could find curling irons for $100s of dollars that may or may not be as good as this curling iron.
The handle has a soft grip so you’re not holding something hard and cold. The power cord is 7 feet long, I’m pretty sure. I like this because I have a hard time staying in one stop and with the long cord I have some leeway of where I can go when curling my hair. On the side there is a nob that goes from 1 (low) to 10 (extra hot) so there are options for the temperature. The hottest temperature it reaches is 430 F. The barrel itself is 1 ¼” and is 24k gold. When I open the barrel the spring squeaks a very annoying sound. I can’t remember if it has always been like this or has just started after using it a few times. There is a stand you can use that is located in between the barrel and the handle. It slides right into a little nook so it doesn’t make an awakward shape out of the curling iron.
This curling iron is very light weight. Which I love because it takes me hours to curl my hair and it doesn’t hurt my wrist or arm. I have dropped my curling iron a few times once even in a bathtub. Luckily it wasn’t plugged in. I dried it off and it still worked just as well as it always had dd.
Storage/How to Clean
Much like my other hair products it’s the perfect size to store in my small bathroom in a little basket. The chord has a Velcro strap connected to the chord that you can wrap around the handle of the curling iron once you have wrapped the chord around. This makes it very easy to take with me and just toss in a purse. It comes with directions on how to clean it which saved me since I had no idea that you had to clean this or what to do.
Even though this is such a great curling iron I still have to use tons of hair spray. Even with half a can of hair spray it still makes my curls look so and natural. Overall, I love this curling iron. I know it’s the only one I’ve ever had and I plan to only ever get the hot tools brand if I ever need a new one. I plan on getting some different sizes because this barrel is so big and those curling irons will be Hot tools.
