| thatsme99's Full Review: Hotel Commonwealth |
Stayed here 3 nights in July 2006. I went to Boston to attend a business meeting at the hotel, then took an extra 6 days to sightsee in Boston and travel around to Salem/Concord/Lexington/ Gloucester area. Hotel Commonwealth is only a few years old and therefore still has that "new" feeling. It's located across the street from Fenway Park and I had a perfect view of the park from my room. The city is redoing the street and median in front of the hotel to make it more aesthetic and park-like with grass and trees, etc, so there was a lot of construction. None of it did I hear from my room. At check-in the Front desk staff were cordial but not especially friendly. The Bellman "Lew" and our "driver" were much more customer oriented. Lew,took good care of us delivering ice, DVD movies, you name it. He was sweet and more than helpful, and after the first time I tipped him, he actually refused the others!!! The Hotel has a car (Mercedes) and they offered to drive us to a dinner restaurant, the trolley stop, and the airport. We had the same driver each time (a college boy) and he was very nice and helpful. I suspect that service will be discontinued when demand for it gets too high. The hotel has several different type rooms. Ours was large, had a kingsize bed and pullout sofa. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was good size and had 3 or 4 glass shelves at the end of the counter on which extra towels were stored! Great idea! Turn down service is offered every night. Not only do they bring cookies, but the entire cleaning cart so you can request extra L'Occitrane toiletries, towels, notepads, whatever. The room had the bed, sofa, black stylish work desk with chairs on BOTH sides of the desk, FREE internet, sitting chair and cocktail table. The hotel offers free DVDs chosen from their movie DVD list. Movies are delivered to your door, come in a gift bag with popped popcorn! I paid about $260 per night. Only 2 negatives: the dinner we ordered at Eastern Standard restaurant was not good at all - a total ripoff. And the cleaning staff did not throw out our leftover chinese food when they cleaned the room the following day so it smelled the next day and I had to track down someone to throw it out for us. Oh, and BEWARE of phone charges, I made three one minute long distance calls to my daughter's cell phone while she was out sightseeing in Boston. They cost me $30!!!! You read that right - thirty dollars!!!!!!!!! The front desk refused to remove the charge saying it was the charge of a contract company and they could not touch it. Not a smart move as I was there for a business meeting in the hotel, and had been asked to check out whether this hotel would work for us as a Boston preferred hotel for the company in the future. Other than that I totally enjoyed my stay.
