The Weed Hound as Lawn Tractor Accessory
Written: Mar 04 '02
Pros:Gets weeds when I spot them while seated on my lawn tractor.
Cons:None
The Bottom Line: When you mow with a riding mower - you'll find those lawn weeds. Now you can get them from the driver's seat.
There are plenty of glowing reviews here for the Weed Hound and I can only say that I echo those reviews. However, I like the Weed Hound for an added reason. I have a fairly large suburban lawn so I use a lawn tractor to mow it. One thing that bugs me is - when I'm mowing I see the weeds in the lawn (I use weed killer but you still get the occasional weed). My mower has a safety switch that requires that I put the mower in park with the blades disengaged before I can get off the seat (otherwise the mower shuts off). While this is a good feature it slows the process of getting the weed and getting on with the mowing. Enter the Weed Hound with which I can reach the weed without getting off the lawn mower. This works quite well with the pressure of me just pushing down on the Hound except when the ground is real hard and dry. I can also get the weeds before I run over them with the mower which makes them hard to find later.
Yes - I had to make a holder for the Weed Hound so I could carry it on the lawn mower, but that was quite easy. One method is to take a piece of 12 or 14 gage wire long enough to go over the back of your seat (the width of the seat plus about 6 inches on each end). Attach the wire to the Weed Hound at the top and the bottom (actually several inches from the top and the bottom) with enough slack to go over the back of the seat. Just let the Weed Hound hang there until you need it. There are more elegant methods - but you get the idea.
The Weed Hound is a really simple product that works really well. My only problem is my neighbors always asking me to demonstrate it on their lawns.
