I bought this tool after passing it by every time I visited the hardware store and wondering, "Does it really work as well as they show on TV"? Finally I just threw caution to the wind and said "Why not" I bought it.
At first I felt a bit sheepish when I brought it home to the hubby, thinking I would get "The Look" and him saying "Not another gardening gadget". I did get both of those, but soon he was out there using this gadget all over the yard. As a matter of fact, he was the first to use it. It really does work. We have a yard full of weeds so we have plenty of opportunity to use it. Although, if you have as many weeds as we do, you are better off buying a weed killer and getting it over with. But for the sporadic dandelion, or hard to reach weed, it does the trick.
How it works is it has prongs that, when you push on the pedal-like part of the tool with your foot, the prongs tighten around the roots of the weed. It does take a twisting action as you pull up on the tool to effectively get the weed out cleanly. To release, you just push on the knob on top and bye, bye weed.
Admittedly, this is a very slow way to weed the yard and again, I don't feel it is for anyone with a lot of weeds. I use it in my perennial beds for that spot weeding. No bending or stooping. You also have to get it pretty centered on the weed to get the whole critter out. It's also a bit noisy, as you push the knob to release the weed. All my neighbors know when I'm out weeding with the Hound. Clang, clang, clang.
