House of Nan King, what else do I have to say? This establishment is listed in every book written about San Francisco. It's no wonder--Peter Fang may be the Soup Nazi of Chinese food, but he serves up the best peanut sauce known to man. Go in knowing what you want to order, or Chef Peter Fang who is almost always there will decide your order for you.
An order or more (suggested one per person) of potstickers for an appetizer, the hot and sour soup, and the Nan King chicken (or Chicken Chow Mein) for dinner are musts. This is honestly the best Chinese food I or anyone else I've ever eaten with has ever had.
The place looks like a whole in the wall, but the wait outside should convince you of its superior quality.

Top it off with a visit to the Fortune Cookie Factory up the street on Ross Alley for bags of reject fortune cookies!

This makes for the quintessential San Francisco experience.
