My son is what you would call a "heavy night wetter." During the day, I would say we go through the average amount of diapers...but nighttime is a different story. Ever since he was born, my son required several diaper-changes between 8pm and 8am. Until he was 8 months old, he was up every two hours during the night. Each time he would wake, I would check his diaper and if he was wet, I would change him.
At 8 months old, he FINALLY started sleeping through the night. It was wonderful! The only problem is that he would wake up soaked! His pajamas, his sheets, his security blanket, and his tender skin...all soaked. I was doing laundry nonstop. It was driving me crazy. I was concerned that his skin wet all night long, I was frustrated with having to do so many loads of laundry, and I was annoyed that his diapers were not doing their job. We tried Pampers, Pampers Premiums, Huggies, Huggies Supremes, Luvs, Publix Brand....then we finally found Huggies Overnights.
Huggies Overnight Diapers are specifically designed for nighttime. The can hold more urine than typical diapers. The have something called the "All Night Protection Zone," which is an area of the diaper (between the legs and front) that is extra absorbent to hold all of that liquid. They have leak-guards (an extra flap of blue elasticized material around the leg openings and across the front of the waistband) that also serves to help keep the liquid in. There is no leak guard across the back of the waistband.
Huggies Overnight Diapers have a cloth-like outer cover. It is not nearly as soft and cloth-like as Pampers Premiums, and feels very much like regular Huggies diapers. They have cute illustrations of animals sleeping, reading and carrying blankets across the front. The diapers are secured with a two inch wide, slightly elasticized velcro piece on either side. I have found these velcro closures to be terribly problematic. If your child is a squirmy wiggler like mine, you'll find these velcro pieces tearing right off the diaper as you are trying to diaper your child. Typically, out of every 18 count package of Huggies Overnights, we lose at least one diaper due to the velcro piece tearing right off. This is incredibly frustrating. We have called the company and complained about it on several occasions, but all they have done is send us coupons for a free package. That's nice, but I would really like to see them redesign the velcro closure.
Huggies Overnights Diapers are only available in three sizes (3, 4 and 5). The package states the following weight ranges for each size:
Size 3 -- 16-28 lbs.
Size 4 -- 22-37 lbs.
Size 5 -- 27-40 lbs.
These diapers tend to run small...or maybe it would be more accurate to say that they are made for babies with narrower waists. My son weighs 25 pounds and he needs a size 5 Huggies Overnight Diaper. If we put him in the size 4, he leaks along the sides.
They only recently started selling size 5 Huggies Overnights. The size 5 diapers are very difficult to find, so if your child needs a size 5, I suggest stocking up on them when you see them in the store.
Huggies Overnights are available in regular size packages (size 5 packages have 18 diapers for $7.99) or jumbo size packages (size 5 jumbo packages have 30 diapers for $12.99). They are expensive, but very worth it in my opinion. You can sign up for the Huggies mailing list to receive coupons and samples by going to www.huggies.com.
My life revolves around keeping my child happy, healthy and comfortable. These diapers help me do just that. He gets a better nights sleep when he is dry and comfortable...thus leading to a happier and healthier child. If you have a baby who is having trouble sleeping at night or waking up soaked, I recommend you give Huggies Overnights Diapers a try. They sure work for us!
