Pull Ups are not a remedy for bedwetting.
Written: May 31 '01 (Updated Jun 01 '01)
Pros:Good product which will keep children dry.
Cons:Not a remedy for enuresis. May contribute to low self esteem in older children.
The Bottom Line: Okay for young children. Not an ideal remedy for children with enuresis.
More than 4 million children over the age of five wet the bed according to the National Kidney Foundation. By the time you are considering the use of Pull-Ups/Goodnites you might also be considering whether your child has a "chronic" bedwetting issue.
First of all it is important to understand that bedwetting is not a personal failure on the part of your child, it is not a parenting failure on your part and Pull-Ups/Goodnites are not a "cure" for children who wet. For most children who wet, recent studies have concluded that there is a genetic predisposition.
If your child is over five years old, has never been dry at night and has a family member that wet as a child there is a very good possibility he or she has enuresis which can be effectively treated with the use of an enuresis alarm. Pull-ups/Goodnites will keep the bed dry but they will not help your child overcome bedwetting. In some cases the continued use of diapers and these diaper-like products can promote low self esteem as the child feels that he or she is not grown-up enough to wear "big kids undies" and this product has still not addressed the root problem.
As you stock up on your next bundle of Goodnites consider also reading the book "Getting to Dry"-How to help your child overcome bedwetting. There is a review here at epinions. Also consider these other related epinions I have written on the subject of childhood bedwetting.

Note: I understand that this epinion is a little on the edge and some people have rated it low because it is slightly off-topic. In my defense I would like to argue that the majority of people who are seeking to buy this product are doing so because their child wets at night and is probably over 5 years old. I suggest that these people are looking for an ideal diaper as a solutioon to bedwetting. My point is rather than compare two diaper brands, the reader should compare this diaper to other bedwetting solutions and there is no better place to make this point. Thanks for your indulgence.
