| krissingene's Full Review: Huggies Supreme Diapers |
Every mother has a "stupid Mom" moment, something that sticks out in her mind as being especially boneheaded and preventable. Mine came one Sunday afternoon when we headed home with my in-laws after church for lunch. Having dropped off "the girls" (me, my daughter, and my mother-in-law), my husband and his father left again to go and pick up some food. While they were gone, I decided that I would feed and change the baby in hopes that she'd be happy enough to let me eat my own lunch in peace. But when I reached into the diaper bag for a fresh diaper...there were none there. How could I have forgotten to restock the diaper bag? What if she'd had a major blow-out? And what do I do now?!
Of course neither man had their mobile phone with them, but with a little persuasion from my mother-in-law, that nice drive-through cashier at Kentucky Fried Chicken spotted them and had my husband call home. "What is it?!", he asked in a panic - naturally assuming the worst, given the situation. I can't tell you how dumb I felt when I admitted that I only needed him to stop for diapers...but he did and, while I may never live down that afternoon, the whole mistake turned out well in the end - because the diapers that he returned with that day were Huggies Supreme.
~* "Butt Wraps" *~
(That's my husband term, but I like it, and have borrowed it with his blessing.) These particular "butt wraps" come in a burgundy plastic package, some with a small picture of a baby on the front and some with a larger picture. They are available in the following sizes:
1 : Up to 14 lbs.
2 : 12 - 18 lbs.
3 : 16 - 28 lbs.
4 : 22 - 37 lbs.
5 : Over 27 lbs.
6 : Over 35 lbs.
We have always purchased the "jumbo" pack (which seems to be the only one that our grocery store carries), and the number of diapers in each package vary by size. When our daughter was in a size two, there were 42 diapers per pack; now that she's grown into a size three, there are 36. If she gets much larger, I'll need an extra-super-jumbo pack!
The diapers have a very soft covering that feels like a blend of paper and cloth. They are mostly white with a light-colored print all over; the newest diapers feature Pooh and Eeyore on the front, while a slightly older version had them on the back as well. (I, for one, am just as glad to see this slight change to the diaper, as they were previously brightly colored so that they showed easily through clothing.) The tabs fasten in a Velcro-like fashion to the front of the diaper and are easy to re-fasten if, like mine, your child is a squirmer and makes changes difficult.
Huggies Supreme diapers feature "triple protection leak barriers", which are essentially folds inside the diaper lining that help prevent leaks. The diaper is very stretchy all over to allow for a more customized fit, and the elastic surrounding the leg openings is very soft - it has never left red marks on my daughter's skin. With the latest improvement to these diapers, there is less material that bunches around the leg openings as well; in the past, I'd have to pull the sides out around her legs at each change, but this is no longer an issue. (Thank goodness - my husband always forgot that part!)
~* Hugging the Baby *~
My major Mommy faux-pas occurred when my daughter was around fifteen pounds, so we started using them with the size two diaper. From the very beginning, they fit her very well, with just enough stretch to secure the diaper snugly but not too tightly. At nearly 17 pounds, however, the size twos (which are recommended to 18 pounds) had become too small and we moved on to the next size. A good rule of thumb - taught to me by other lovely Epinions mommies - is to move into the next larger diaper size as soon as your child meets the minimum weight requirement for that size. I've found that to be especially true with Huggies Supreme diapers.
These diapers are exceptionally absorbent - my daughter wears them overnight (and she's quite a good sleeper) and has yet to have a leak in three months. Furthermore, unlike every other diaper brand we've tried since her birth, she has yet to have a blow-out; with others, messes have traveled up her front and back and out the sides, but never with Huggies Supreme. Is it any wonder then that these are my diapers of choice?
Because Huggies Supreme are not powder-scented like Pampers diapers, it is rather easy to tell when the wearer is wet...or worse. While the odor isn't immediately apparent, a quick sniff-check of the general vicinity will answer all of Mommy's questions. While a slightly disgusting revelation, an accurate sniff-check does save me the hassle of stripping my little girl only to find that my hunch was wrong, so I consider this a small perk as well.
~* Learn From Your Mistakes *~
While I still feel silly about the afore mentioned event, I've learned two things from that mishap. I always check the diaper bag before leaving the house now, even if I'm sure of it's contents...and I buy Huggies Supreme. No other diaper works better for my little girl, and I'm eternally grateful to have found them.
~* Where To Buy *~
These diapers and other Huggies products are widely available at grocery stores and discount retailers, as well as online at drugstore.com, among others. A jumbo pack sells for $9.99 at my local Wal-Mart (yes, I said my Wal-Mart, Kimm!)
~* Ingredients *~
From product packaging: "Huggies Supreme diapers come with the Ultra SkinGuard Liner, that contains the following mild cosmetic ingredients to help keep skin soft and healthy-looking: petrolatum, ozokerite."
~* IMPORTANT *~
To avoid the risk of suffocation, always keep diaper packaging and other plastic bags away from babies and small children.
