Predatation's Full Review: Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Linkin Park has come a long way, from it's humble beginnings as a band between a few High School friends in 1995. The band consisted (at that time) of Vocalist/Emcee Mike Shinoda, Guitarist Brad Delson and Drummer Rob Bourdon. The three realized they had something special from the first moment they started jamming together. DJ Joseph Hahn joined Hybrid (Linkin Park at the time). Only one more piece of this hard-hiting group remained. Chester Bennington, an Arizona native, joined the group, completing it as well.
Hybrid was a near instant success in the often tedious Southern California rock scene, they soon began packing bars and lounges across So Cal, with fans wanting more all the time. Hybrid Theory's EP, was the turning point for these visionaries, combining Turntables, Guitars, Bass and the power of two vocalists, the five men brought a fresh new sound to the So Cal club scene.
Linkin Park's first foray into the full-scale Rock Scene came in 2000, with the release of 'Hybrid Theory', an album that (depending on who you talk to) is one of the most significant debut albums of the last few years, or the biggest waste of time. Linkin Park has caused an uproar in the metal community, hard-core Limp Bizkit fans citing the band to be a bunch of "wannabees" while others are saying the group is obviously more talented.
Phew, enough background info on Linkin Park, let's get down to business.
Hybrid Theory is a fine piece of plastic, combining elements of Metal, Hip-Hop and just plain screaming. The group creates an erie arrangement of songs. I was so impressed by this, I travelled the net, searching for audio of the bands EP and Demo, upon finding them, I was surprised at the high-level displayed in such simple pieces.
The group borrows from many styles, and combines them into one larger portrait of modern music. Utilizing high-quality mixing the band brings the sounds to a new level, often you can listen to track, and each time discover a new guitar rift, or a new lyric in the background. The only tracks I find myself skipping over, are the single 'One Step Closer' simply because it has become so over-played, and 'Cure For The Itch' which is a foray of DJ Hahn's, with mostly just turntables.
All said, Hybrid Theory is one of the last years better success, but I tihnk we will have to wait until Linkin Park releases a new album to see how well they really are....
When the first track from a band s debut album gets added to major rock stations four weeks before its official release, it must be something very spe...More at Buy.com
