Pros: Good text and graphics quality; short neck
Cons: Heavy and rather high, one fault - yet to be fixed - which should not have passed inspection.

| rational's Full Review: IBM G 96 19 inch CRT Monitor |
I purchased the IBM G96 monitor on the basis of a magazine review that praised it for highly readable text. I have not been disappointed in the text quality. I do a lot of desktop publishing, and find I can view a whole page on the screen, and still read 11 point text.
Although graphics quality is secondary for me, I am also impressed in this regard (mind you, I am running a high quality graphics card - Matrox - which no doubt helps). Power management is good - the screen returns rapidly from its powered-down state once a key is pressed.
Setup is unproblematical, adjustments are fairly easy using buttons on the front and onscreen information. It is possible to adjust a wide range of functions.
On the down side, the monitor is heavy to lift, and larger than I had anticipated - I had to reorganise my space somewhat to fit it in under a bookshelf (though it does have a short neck, which will be an advantage for users with little depth on the desk.
There is only one fault I can detect - the image on the screen drops by about 3mm on the top left. I am currently chasing my supplier to either have this fixed or the monitor replaced. It is not serious, but in my opinion unacceptable for a monitor of this quality and price.
Nothwithstanding these few quibbles, this is a nice monitor which fulfills expectations and will please both people who work a lot with text and those who specialise in graphics.
