Pros: High performance machine with excellent monitor and features.
Cons: Extremely big and heavy Compared to last think pad.
The Bottom Line: The ThinkPad A30 is a sturdy machine with an excellent screen that I would recommend to anyone needing a dependable laptop and is not worried about style and size.

I am an Engineer for the Phone Company. We were recently issued new IBM ThinkPad A30's to replace our old ThinkPad 600's. The old ThinkPad was meeting my needs so, I thought the new ThinkPad could only be an improvement.
The machine comes configured and ready to use. The first thing that I noticed was the size it is about 1/3 bigger in every dimension except the weight. It is only slightly heavier than the 600. The increased size makes it a very tight fit in most Laptop bags.
The screen is much brighter and easier to read the old screen. The only complaint that I have is the silly little mouse pointer. That does not work for me. I always connect my own external mouse. The only improvement that I would make is to add a touch pad mouse under the buttons below the keypad. I think that would work much better that the configuration that IBM is using now.
The computer runs well and I have not had any problems with it. It is very sturdy and has already survived one fall without any damage.
The battery life is good. I get about 3 hours out of the battery. I am satisfied with the ThinkPad A30.
