I've had them all, most recently the toshiba satellite 5005, and that one pushed me over the edge. It looked more like a game or a toy, some cute curvy car rather than a military vehicle, like the IBM T23. This laptop came with 48 gig hd, 512 ram, wireless built-in----but I must say the two most important things are the case and keyboard---serious looking, serious feeling, no one can tell that I use this to play Half life! (p.s. it plays all video games, even the tough 3d shooters perfectly).
The second great thing is the IBM Access Support, an online utility that works with you to control the computer as it solves problems. This is worth the price of admission alone.
You might not like the little touch point controller or the buttons, versus the touchpads on most other laptops, but you get used to it, and actually, I now prefer it because those touchpads always end up being too sensitive.
The battery lasts about 2 hours 15 minutes, not bad. DVD's play perfectly, have had no problems whatsoever.
The bottom line is this: the non-style is a great style, and the IBM looks like a machine, acts like a machine and when I pull it out of my bag, I feel like I am deploying it rather than toying with it.
I know, very shallow thinking---but it works better than any laptop I've had.
