Pros: Simple to use/install, standard security features
Cons: Nothing "Special" about it
This is my third or so router. My experience has been that most routers I buy work great. I haven't had much of a better experience with one verses the other. However, here is my experience with this router:
Range: Range is fine on this router. It's a wireless G router so it should be sufficient for most homes. I haven't gone more than a couple hundred feet, but when it's working I always get a good signal. I wouldn't want much more range than this because then you're only helping your neighbors or people outside of your property get in.
connectivity: This router's connectivity is not that great. What I mean is, if I try to stay online for a very long time, it's likely to cut me off. Now granted, it is not 100% the router's fault. I believe that my Comcast Internet glitches out and that throws the router out of wack. However, I then have to restart my router (not my modem) to get my Internet working again. This can be irritating at times naturally. Besides that I have no issues. Connecting otherwise is simple and quick.
Setup: The router has huge "Do not plug in, put the CD in first!" messages, that are rather annoying. They make you feel scared to do what you always do with a router, just plug to your modem and try to connect via wireless card. I just disregarded the messages and plugged the router into my modem. Shortly after I was connected with no further steps, and no "easy setup" CDs. Obviously it is recommended to do more to setup security on your router, which I have not done yet (I have just recently moved and put the router in)
Features: This router basically has the same features that you find in most routers. It has the basic settings for Cable/DSL etc (I have only used this for Cable and can say it works great for cable) There is decent security, such as encryption, website url blocking, website keyword blocking, ip address blocking, a firewall, etc. There really isn't anything that interesting that the router can do, but that's ok as it does exactly what it's expected to do.
I know from experience from other routers that this router should also be reliable. I haven't had it long enough to say it's lasted for years, but I've had previous linksys routers, and they always last until a lightning storm fries them. Speaking of which, if you get this router I highly recommend you buy surge protection for it as well.
