Pros: Very fast and easy setup with good range and fast download throughput.

Cons: I have not yet identified any downside to this router.

The Bottom Line: I have found the WRT54GS to be an excellent router. Its ease of installation, fast throughput, decent signal strength, and price make it a good value.

I have used D-Link routers for the last several years and had many problems with my latest one. This led me to search for a different brand. After looking at routers in my price range and reading a lot of reviews, I decided upon the Linksys WRT54GS. I could not be happier with my decision.

The setup of the router and network was very easy. I downloaded a small program from the Linksys website which automated setup of the network on my laptop. The entire process, out of the box to surfing the net, took about 15 minutes.

The signal range of the router has proven more than adequate for my apartment--far better signal strength than with my previous router. I have tested throughput several times and am consistently downloading at 16Mbs+ and uploading at 1Mbs with a broadband connection. With my previous router, also a wireless G router, download speeds never exceeded 14Mbs.

I had read a few reviews that said the unit tended to overheat. I have been using the 54GS for almost two months now and have not experienced any problems with the unit.

I would recommend the WRT54GS, particularly since I have seen that the price has dropped by at least $10.00 in the last month.
