Pros: I'm not even a big fan, but I loved this book!
Cons: I liked the first half more than the second half.
The Bottom Line: Great Biography. Easy to read! Enjoyable!

| thirtycats's Full Review: Lung Cheng, Jackie Chan, Jeff Yang - I Am Jackie C... |
I was in a biography/autobiography phase and was roaming that section of the library. I came across the Jackie Chan autobiography. I'm not a huge fan. Not that I don't like the guy, but I don't belong to his fan club or have a shrine for him in our bathroom. My husband is a fan though, so I guess his love spiked my interest.
The book was very easy to read. I'm a relatively intelligent person, but I don’t need something written on a 12th grade level to make me feel I’m smart enough. I like books that are smooth and enjoyable.
Another important thing for me, in terms of liking a book, is the author’s voice. I find some writers seem friendly. It’s as if you’re talking to a friend and other writer’s make me want to send them back into a time where they used torture devices. This book had a very friendly author’s voice. The only problem is I’m not sure how much of it was truly Jackie Chan’s voice and how much of it belonged to the coauthor. From what I’ve known, Chan is not that fluent in English. So I guess I feel buddy buddy with Chan and the co-author.
I must say that I preferred the beginning half of the book which takes place in the Chinese Opera company better than the second half which is about Chan’s film career. The childhood stuff is very interesting and heartwarming. The movie stuff isn’t bad, but at times, I felt Chan came off as being a little too bitter. Bitterness is okay. I have lots of it. I just think the ending half of the book could use a little less. But I still love this book!
