| tonya66's Full Review: I Love Lucy Doll - Job Switching |
For me, owning this doll represents two of my greatest passions in one item; doll collecting and classic television shows. I've been a doll collector for nearly 20 years and own many dolls of different compositions; porcelain, vinyl, wood, and cloth. This doll is definitely a quality doll and a brilliant addition to any serious doll enthusiast's collection. It is also a wonderful representation of one of television's greatest comedic actresses, Lucille Ball.
This particular I Love Lucy doll, "Job Switching," is the second in a series of several dolls that were made based upon some of the most famous and memorable episodes of the popular 1950's television series, I love Lucy. This particular doll is the likeness of Lucy from the famous "Job Switching" episode of I Love Lucy where best gal pals, Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz, decide to go get jobs and end up working in a candy factory. Almost anyone who is a fan of classic TV shows can recall the hilarity of watching Lucy at her funniest as the candy factory boss yells, "Speed it up a little!" and the candy comes rolling down the conveyor belt quicker than Lucy and Ethel can wrap it, forcing Lucy and Ethel to start eating the candy, hiding it in their outfits, and under their hats!
Though the original I Love Lucy episodes were filmed in black and white and it is difficult to tell what color things actually were in the episodes, when comparing the the style of the outfit on this doll to how it appeared on the show, it comes very close in detail. The red hair, for which Lucy was famous, comes alive on this doll. The pastel pink hat works very well with Lucy's red hair. Though some celebrity dolls often badly miss the mark when trying to recapture the "real McCoy," this doll is a fine likeness of Lucille Ball with regard to the doll's facial features.
This was the first celebrity doll I ever purchased for my doll collection and it prompted me to collect others in this series and other celebrity dolls as well. Whether or not you are a fan of Lucy, the television show, dolls, or classic TV in general, this doll will make you smile each time you look at it and it is well worth the purchase. I definitely recommend it for adding a bit of nostalgia and sweetness to a shelf in virtually any room in the home!
