I Love Lucy...what an ageless icon in the history of comedic television. We all remember the really great shows. Everyone has their personal favorites. Me, hmmm, I remember how Lucy made me smile. How everything in the world could be going wrong, and turn on I Love Lucy, and Lucy's comedic abilities seem to make my troubles disappear. It's strange to know that all the majority of those little skits were the brainchild of Desi Arnaz. Wasn't he a remarkable person to take a backseat to the inherently talented Lucille Ball.
I've been collecting dolls ever since I can remember and I still have my first Barbie from when I was three (you know the dolls that don't have bendable legs or arms and are made of hard plastic with painted faces)and all her clothes and shoes and nylons and little booklets with the pictures of Barbie's wardrobe. I'd sit there and dream about the next outfit that I would have my mom purchase.
Only now and for the past 25 years, the dolls I have purchased have been for collecting purposes and I never remove them from their boxes. This particular Lucy doll and the previous one in this series, Lucy in the Vitameatavegamin commercial, were placed into boxes with a wide plastic see-through front that allow you to see what they look like, and if you happen to be a collector like me, you spend a lot of time looking at every little aspect of the dolls you collect.
These Lucy Collection dolls are so beautiful, they captured Lucy's appearance so incredibly. The clothes are great replications of the actual clothes Lucy wore in those great shows. Lucy is holding Chocolates in a wrapper in her hand inside package, she's wearing a grey and pink dress with that bakers hat that she stuffed all those chocolates into, and she has that classic Lucy look on her face. In the Vitameatavegamin Lucy Doll package, she is standing there with the bottle of vitameatavegamin in her hand and from a distance it almost appears as though Lucy is waving to you and she's wearing that classic black & white dress. They both have those great long eyelashes that were Lucy's trademark.
If YOU or someone you know Loves Lucy, I recommend these two dolls as a great gift. They dolls are really meant for collectors, I wouldn't actually take them out of the box for children to play with, but that is really up to you.
I just saw on the Home Shopping Club channel the other day that the next in this series has been released...it is the "Lucy in Italy" stomping the grapes. She has grape earrings and a peasant white blouse with a dark purple skirt. I can't wait to get that one too!
Enjoy! Another SMILE from Mattel!
