xravenx's Full Review: Iams Chunks and Mini Chunks
When I adopted my dog, I was unsure of what food to buy her. We started with Science Diet, but she hated the taste and refused to eat more than a couple of bites. So, I switched her to Iams adult formula chunks after she tried it at the kennel. She enjoyed eating it for the first month or so and started to gain some (needed) weight. However, about a month later, she started refusing to eat it. I ended up giving her dry food, wet food, and any leftover meat we had. She would eat the meat and a couple of bites of the dog food but not very much. After a couple of weeks of this, she started losing weight, her hair started falling out and she just didn't seem to feel well. After taking her to the vet and talking to some other people in the area that had dogs, I realized that some of the other Iams dogfood feeders were having similar problems (mainly with the hair falling out). So, we ended up having to switch to another brand of dog food (california natural).
The main ingredients for the food are:
Chicken By-Product Meal
Ground Corn
Rice Flour
Ground grain sorghum
Animal Fat
Also, I am not sure why my dog had a reaction to it. But, my vet does think that it could either be an allergy to corn, to chicken (which I highly doubt because she eats other chicken products), or from a lack of nutrients due to the by-product meal being the first ingredient.
Although the food didn't work for my dog, I know a lot of other people whose dogs love it. After switching foods, I still had about 20 pounds of the Iams left over. Yuck! So, I decided to call the number on the bag expecting them to tell me to return it where I got it (yeah..I have no idea where that receipt might be). Instead, I talked to this really friendly lady who seemed generally interested and ended up refunding me about 5 dollars more than what I paid for the food in the first place. I couldn't have asked for an easier or more friendly return.
