IAMS: Cat food that's worth a try

Pros: Kittens and mom eat it, and we all know how finicky some cats are!
Cons: Doesn't seem to help with their health, generally smelly and expensive.
The Bottom Line: Give it a try, you never know because what works for one cat may not work for another.

I have recently begun feline rescue work. I have living with me a mother cat and her three kittens. The wonderful organization I foster for supplied me with food but I was hoping to try something else just to see what works best.
I chose to try IAMS because on the front of purple bag it specifically states, "High protein for growth and development" and I have always heard cats need high protein foods.
The first thing I noticed, was of course, the price! My goodness I think I paid almost 13.00 for a smaller, four pound sized bag but then I did purchase the bag at a local pet shop retailer and had noticed most of their items were more expensive than elsewhere.
The next thing I noticed was it smelled badly. I'm not sure if this is a good thing, that it has the ingredients it advertises or what but I didn't like it. The only redeeming thing so far seems to be that the kittens and mom eat it but I'll tell you, they don't seem to be gaining any weight, in fact they actually lost weight and I've had to change their food back to how it was.
Typically one shouldn't change their pets food often but I was trying to find the right "remedy" for these cats so that they are their healthiest.
I simply couldn't really recommend this food but then what "works" for one cat may not work for another so it may be worth trying at least so I'm forced to give an "official" recommendation. I can say I was much happier with the IAMS "soft food" version of this, but that's another review!
