Pros: lots of flavors and options for dieters: low cal, low sugar and low carb
Cons: You will immediately bypass the low cal options and go for the double sundae.
The Bottom Line: Great ice cream, lots of flavors with low cal, no sugar, frozen yogurt and low carb options. The decor is very, very bland so plan to eat and run.

| modernmarvel's Full Review: Ice Cream Works |
Ice Cream Works is located in Newton Highlands, a nice neighborhood of shops and restaurants. There is street and lot parking and access from the T's green line.
THE ICE CREAM
Why stop at chocolate, vanilla and strawberry? They have: ginger, cantaloupe, all kinds of candy-inspired flavors, murder (chocolate chunk things in chocolate ice cream), champagne sorbet and a lot of other strange and yummy flavors. You will find lots of choices written on a white board because flavors change frequently. Of course, the old stand-bys and really popular flavors are almost always available.
The ice cream also comes in lots of options: murder is available in regular or low cal. There are frozen yogurt options, no sugar options and even low carb options. They have the best selection of fat and calorie alternatives I have ever seen.
All of the soda fountain favorites are available: ice cream sodas, frappes and sundaes. They come in cups or cones and the servers will make anything you ask for. They even have skim milk if you want a no-fat ice cream soda.
OTHER FOOD
Brownies, cookies. That's it. There is a sandwich shop across the street.
AMBIANCE
This is where Ice Cream Works could use some work. There are about 6 tables and some chairs. There is little decor on the walls - a few posters advertising a soda fountain syrup. Very minimalist. (My advice: buy some art posters, paint some cows on the walls, do something!!!) There are a few tables outside in good weather where you can do some people watching. You won't want to linger after your ice cream.
CAKES
They do a brisk business in ice cream cakes. There is always a good selection pre-made in the freezer. They will add the salutation when you purchase. There are usually ice cream sandwiches also available. Cakes can be pre-ordered. They carry a good selection of birthday cake candles.
PRICES
Right up the middle and very fair - $2-4 depending on the size for ice cream.
SERVICE
Counter service only. Generally, high school and college kids. They are usually helpful and quick.
RECOMMENDATION
Go for the ice cream. It is really good and the variety of flavors and options will appeal to everyone in your party. Don't plan on lingering, the decor and ambiance are non-existent. Consider an ice cream cake for your next party.
