I love mashed potatoes, but I don't love toiling for hours to make them.  And, I like them to be very flavorful.  That's why I like the Idahoan Mashed Potato packets.  And, in particular, I really like the Roasted Garlic flavor.

These are certainly convenient - nothing could be easier to make!  No need for milk or butter - just add the flakes to water.  You can do this on the stovetop, or in the microwave.  In either case, you're just a few minutes away from hot, delicious mashed potatoes.

In this case, the wonderful aroma of garlic begins from the first moment the flakes make contact with the water.   And as I stir the final product, fluffing with my fork, my mouth begins watering for that taste.

Speaking of taste, I'm not sure I would confuse these mashed potatoes with the ‘real thing' but for me, they're just as good.  They have a delightful texture, a pleasing aroma, and a taste that's just marvelous.  My husband and I both like the flavor of garlic, and we're both pleased with these potatoes.  Not too heavy on the garlic, and not too light.  Just right! In fact, I would say that between me and my husband, we have never had to worry about storing leftovers.

Each envelope makes four ½-cup servings.  Each serving contains 110 calories, 3g of fat, and 590mg of sodium.   In other words, the calories and fat aren't too bad for a side dish.  But the sodium's not great.  On the other hand, I've seen far worse sodium in some other side dishes. 

The first nine ingredients are Idaho potatoes, corn syrup solids, salt, partially hydrogenated oil, whey powder, coconut oil, sugar, nonfat dry milk and sodium caseinate.  After that, the ingredients become increasingly more difficult for me to spell correctly.  But, the first ingredients are, basically, potatoes, oil, milk, sugar, and salt.  As far as the garlic flavor, a bit later down in the list we find natural and artificial flavor and dehydrated garlic. 

I like this product - it has a lovely taste, isn't too bad as far as nutrition goes, couldn't possibly be easier to make, and costs about a dollar for the envelope.  A winner in my household!
