Pros: Can cool and warm while on the go.
Just about everyone that I have talked to has seen this refrigerator/warmer by Igloo (model MIS 129), but most of them don't really know what this has to offer. I was willing to pay $60.00 for this one. But, when I knew where I could get it for less than $60.00, I had to bite on the hook. I found this at Meijer’s for only $25.00 out the door. This included the taxes for this unit. In my book, that is a real deal, to be able to get a top of the line unit for less than $50.00 was a deal. The customer service is excellent to talk to and we were satisfied with the ways things were going with this portable fridge.
This has a total capacity 1 gallon or 4 liters or 6 cans of pop inside of this refrigerator. It has a two in one cooling/warming system, and air tight doors to keep the surrounding air flow inside. There is a total one shelf, made of a plastic grid. This comes in six different colors, they include: blue, silver, pink, white, black and red. This has no storage bins and no interior lighting. What this does come with is a AC/DC plug and is ideal for anyone on the go. This will also plug into the car for those long road trips.
This also has a very cute door that has a rubber air tight seal and the handle is hinged, so that when you try and open the door, you just push down to open, the door will then kind of pop open. The hinges are not concealed inside of the door, they are made of a chrome look for a better looking fridge. The outside of this unit has a nostalgic look and made of colored plastic and is contoured and has a smooth horizontal finish. The door has a small oval window so that you do not have to open the door to see what you have inside of your unit. On the top you will see a recessed hinged plastic handle, this will make transportation a breeze.
It is very important that you know the outside dimensions of this fridge, the width is 8.25" (side to side) x 11.5” (deep) x 11.75" (high), and if you are wondering what the weight of this unit is, well it weighs a measly 7.25 pounds. This will plug into any household outlet and the cooling capacity is 15 to 20 degrees below the ambient temperature, the warming capabilities is approximately 50-60 degrees C which is a set point by the mfg. Your power consumption is 42 watts on the cool setting and on the warming setting it is only 33 watts. On the right rear corner of this unit there is a plug in spot for your 8’ adapter cord, and a cool/warm switch. This also has a LED light to let you know that it has power going to it.
There is only two basic functions that you will be able to do with this unit and that is cool or warm something. We love the fact that we do not have to open the door to see what is inside. We have had this for a little while now and take it where ever we need to keep something warm or cool. Right now it is in my wife’s office keeping yogurt and water cold. This by no means will replace the regular fridge but it does help us out while we are on the go. This includes road trips, picnics (as long as you have a place to plug this into), the most popular place to use this is in a dorm or office.
The nice option is that this has a nice finish and wipes clean easily with a damp cloth. The runs quietly and does not use a lot of electricity to keep it plugged in at all times. This is an electrical appliance so all the more reason that you do not let the kids mess with this. They may want to try and submerse it in some water to clean it. The inside of the fridge is white and also wipes clean very easily with a damp cloth. Probably the most important thing that you should know about this unit, is that when you are ready to switch from the cool to warm feature, you need to let this unit to sit for ten minutes or so to switch from to the other. You will know which one that you are on because there is a green light for cooling and a red light for warming.
I do know if this comes with a one year warranty or not, but at this price who cares. If you get one year out of a unit like this, you can just throw it away if it stops working and purchase another one.
We are extremely happy with our new fridge, and it is very quiet. We have had no problems with this so far, even if you get any finger prints on the front, it is not hard to keep this free of them. You can try warm soapy water and a clean cloth to dry it. If this does not work you can try 409 or something like a multi-purpose cleaner. Yet, this still may not be enough to get the fingerprints off of the front.
All of our food has stayed cooled or warmed for as long as we needed it to be. The Igloo company has come a long way since the invention of the plain old lunch box. With this in your kitchen, or office, it will be like being with the Jetsons. This has a very nostalgic yet futuristic look, and worth every penny that you have to pay for this, five stars for the cooling and warming options and stylish looks.
