My husband bought this for our four year old for her birthday and she couldnt wait to tear open the box. It was one of her favorite colors and it looked like tons of fun.
Well, here it is almost six months later and she still plays with it just about every day. The possibilities of how to stack the pieces are endless.
Wedgits Purple Set comes with 15 pieces of small purple plastic rhombuses that come in five different sizes perfect for symmetrical stacking. There is one giant rhombus, two large rhombuses, three medium rhombuses, four small rhombuses, and five octahedrons. The giant, large, and medium rhombuses are the darker purple color, and the remaining ones are a lighter color purple. The box also comes with a storage rack and a small paper with some design ideas.
So, how do you play with Wedgits Purple Set? Well, you stack them of course. But, you dont just stack them on top of each other, you can turn the rhombuses around sideways, and then put another smaller one on top of that. You can start with the smaller ones on the bottom and wind up with the giant one at the top. You can make three separate pyramids or you can make one big castle. My daughter has created at least 20 structures of her own that were not even a design idea that the set came with.
My four year old sits down with my husband who is an engineer, and his friend, also an engineer, and they come up with some interesting structures made out of Wedgits Purple Set. The endless design possibilities is what makes this fun and constantly played with.
Wedgits Purple Set is recommended for ages 3 up until 103. The small rhombuses can pose a choking hazard. Since the pieces are plastic, they are easy to just wipe down after being played with on a floor or your child has been sick and sneezing all over it.
Wedgits Purple Set encourages imagination. It also stimulates spatial thinking, encourages creativity, and just makes learning fun. This keeps my very active four year old occupied long enough so that I can prepare dinner and actually sit down and watch her play.
This is also fun for everyone. Sometimes we have a contest to see who can build a structure using every single piece first. It could be tough. It really takes concentration and thinking ahead before you place the next piece. My daughter does not usually rush through playing with this. If she leaves one or two pieces over, shell dump the structure over and start over again.
Wedgits 15 piece set also comes in primary colors or pink. The 15 piece set is considered a junior set. There is also a deluxe set and a class pack of 90 pieces available. Check out their website http://www.wedgits.com to see the rest of their product line. You can also combine the sets. You can buy the pink set to go with Wedgits Purple Set and make bigger designs. Or you may want to eventually graduate to the class pack. We are still doing great on just the Wedgits Purple Set.
Wedgits Purple Set is available for purchase at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/105-2094045-1388458?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=wedgits+purple+set for $19.99.
