loves2run's Full Review: Imodium A D Anti Diarrheal 24 Caplets
Not the best of subjects, but let’s face it, we have all experienced diarrhea at one time or another. When this ailment hits our household Imodium® A-D is our medication of choice to treat this problem.
When I was a child, my mom always gave us Pepto-Bismol® when we had diarrhea. I cannot remember if it worked or not, but I do remember the taste of it and gag just thinking of it. My husband and I have used Imodium® A-D for as long as long as I can remember. When the kids were younger, the pediatrician always advised us against giving the kids any medication for diarrhea. We would keep them on a bland diet with lots of fluids to prevent dehydration. Now that they are older, we can give them Imodium® A-D also.
Imodium® A-D is an anti-diarrheal that works quickly to relieve not only the diarrhea but also the cramping you can get from it. It comes in small easy to swallow caplets, no sick tasting liquid to try and get down. The only side effect any of us has ever noticed is once in awhile it will cause us to become constipated if we have to use more than one dose.
I feel that directions for use, ingredients and warnings are very important factors in buying a medication, thus the following is listed directly from the box.
WHAT THEY CLAIM
Only Imodium® A-D Caplets provide effective diarrhea relief in a smaller caplet that is easier to swallow.
*The original prescription strength of Imodium® A-D in a smaller caplet, for diarrhea relief often in just one dose, in both adults and children 6 years of age and older.
*Less than half the size of the original Imodium® A-D Caplet, so they are easier to swallow.
INDICATIONS
Imodium® A-D controls the symptoms of diarrhea, including Travelers’ Diarrhea.
DIRECTIONS
Drink plenty of clear fluids to help prevent dehydration, which may accompany diarrhea.
Adults and Children 12 years of age and older: Take 2 caplets after the first loose bowel movement and 1 caplet after each subsequent loose bowel movement but no more than 4 caplets a day for no more than 2 days.
Children 9-11 years (60-95 lbs): Take 1 caplet after the first loose bowel movement and ½ caplet after each subsequent loose bowel movement but no more than 3 caplets a day for not more than 2 days.
Children 6-8 years (48-59 lbs): Take 1 caplet after the first loose bowel movement and ½ caplet after each subsequent loose bowel movement but not more than 2 caplets a day for not more than 2 days.
Children under 6 years old (up to 47 lbs): Consult a physician. Not intended for use in children under 6 years old.
WARNINGS
KEEP THIS AND ALL DRUGS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. Do not use for more than two days unless directed by a physician. DO NOT USE IF DIARRHEA IS ACCOMPANIED BY HIGH FEVER (GREATER THAN 101º F), OR IF BLOOD OR MUCUS IS PRESENT IN THE STOOL, OR IF YOU HAVE HAD A RASH OR OTHER ALLERGIC REACTION TO LOPERAMIDE HCI. If you are taking antibiotics or have a history of liver disease, consult a physician before using this product. As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using this product. In case of accidental overdose, seek professional assistance or contact a poison control center immediately.
INGREDIENTS
Active Ingredients: Loperamide HCI 2 mg per caplet.
Inactive Ingredients: Dibasic calcium phosphate, magnesium Stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal silicon dioxide, FD&C Blue #1 and D&C Yellow #10.
