I Heart Gomez (Reply to this comment)

It says a lot about the quality of this likable young band when their worst effort to date, still merits 3 stars.
I adore the first two albums, and the most interesting live and rarities compilation that is Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline. You've nailed what's right and wrong about In Our Gun, and given a fair-handed rating to boot!

Hello,
Thanks for the excellent review... I too love their first two albums, and this one is taking me all kinds of trouble to get into. I'm not sure why, but this review sort of helps!
Take care

It can be hard... (Reply to this comment)

... to give a "Very Helpful" to a mixed/negative review of an album i love through-and-through, but in this case it was an obvious choice. In Our Gun was my first Gomez purchase, precisely because "smoky blues-rock" (the common description of their prior work) is a negative in my catalog, and i didn't know much more. I suspect on reading this that In Our Gun will always be my favorite of their albums-to-date, but if "Miles End" and "Sound of Sounds" are typical of their prior work, i definitely need to fill out my Gomez catalog.
Cheers!

I like their distinctive British sound, especially since they are not afraid to try something new. Great job on the review! your rating hits the nail on the head.
