Please excuse my oddness. (Reply to this comment)

Thankyou for being so informative yet witty and funny at the same time. I am a fan of hiphop (which, like you, I presumed this was), but unfortunately am not blessed with the greatest knowledge of such matters. Being permanently skint (read: broke), you have therefore, through your own misfortune, averted me from yet more financial badness. How courteous of you.
Kevin :-)

What's the matter with you? (Reply to this comment)

Are you for real?! Could it have really been that bad for you. I personally feel that you are not open minded enough to appreciate the album hence the negative review. I am thankful that they were able to introduce me to this sound, it took 13 for anyone to sway me from the hip hop r&b soul sound. But let me ask you what is it that you like about music so much these days that you wouldn't embrace a project like this. I think you influenced people to avoid buying the cd and I feel bad cause I'm loving it right now and think other people would too, people that really wouldn't expect to. I applaud the Neptunes for doing things their way and pity that people like you don't appreciate the difficulty in doing so in such a boring uncreative musical era such as the one in which we're living. Luckily they are more wiling to bend than you are otherwise I probably would have hated the cd. You just can't please all of the people all of the time.

Bryan - Thanks. This is not even close to being Hip-Hop fusion, if that's the case than Limp Bizkit must be the BOMB (and they're not). I love Prince Paul and I thought that Handsome Boy Modeling School album was on point - I own that.
I don't think they've done anything except make a really pretentious Rock record which was geared to sucking in Hip-Hop fans like myself.
DAMN!!! I would have sold you my copy but I took back to the store soon as I finished writing this review...plus I really wouldn't want to continue to spread this through the community. thanks for commenting

Re: not enough good records coming out? (Reply to this comment)

I just ran across this comment today and you have no email on your page so I hope that eventually you'll see this. Up until about 2 weeks ago I had no cable and didn't listen to the radio at all for about a year so I do actively seek out music.
I COMPLETELY understand that music exists outside of the multi-platinum a scanning of my reviews would prove as such - my taste run the gamut and are very varied.
There are plenty of acts I want the world to hear but that won't happen - it doesn't take away from the fact that this is a terrible album.
You can and did say my taste is questionable - the beauty of thinking different is marvelous isn't it?
yeah, you did fail to bring home the point - but i got what you were saying. too bad i STILL think N*E*R*D SUCKS...thanks for stopping by

N.E.R.D. (Reply to this comment)

While your review is itself a good review, I am in 100% disagreement. I love these hip-hop fusion types of project. N.E.R.D., Dr. Octagon (or ANY Kool Keith project), Prince Paul, etc -- they have, IMHO, given so much new flavor to hip hop and expanded its boundaries, which seem limitless.
Well- written review, though. (& hey, I'll give you your 8$ back if you send me the cd; 1 for my car and the 1 i got at home stays home).
Peace,
bryan

not enough good records coming out? (Reply to this comment)
by uber_futant
Have you ever attempted to actually search for new acts? Or even new discs? Rather than sit and listen to what MTV, VH1, BET, Virgin Records, Epic records, or who ever else may be bringing up "new talent". JesusF*ck. You realize that music not only exists beyond the boundries of multiplatinum artists, but there is honest-to-God-good music in that realm. In fact, some of today's best artists are lucky if they can reach a Gold standing in sales.
Of course, you may for some reason only like music that "happens" to be popular - and to that I could say your taste in music is questionable. Nevermind, it's apparent that I think it is.
A point escapes me. But I'm sure you know what that's all about.

As usual, I was about to be doped in by a favorable VIBE review. THanks for the realism girl. I should have known after I mistakenly bought Tim & Magoo's new one. Like MAD said, producers gone artists don't make for a good album.
Much luv

I'm not a fan of the Neptunes, except for a couple tracks for Nore, Mystikal and Busta. The market is oversaturated with their sparse soundscapes and regurgitated beat programming. So it was even worse when I heard they were making an album. I expected exactly what you described and am GLAD they scrapped that idea. This is something much more than what it could have been. Not the best lyrics no, but the live instrumentation and arrangement still more than make up for it. They experimented and did what they felt instead of conforming to meager expectations.
And besides, you bought Janet Jackson’s "All For You" and Destiny’s Child’s "Survivor"!!

Anybody who helps out the teeny-bopper boy bands and girl singers really can't be that sonically impressive. I guess this album proves that :)
Thanks, Carletta.

Now that Epinions has finally let me comment...
Kinda like you said... The Neptunes suck if you ask me. When they produced that track for Britney, they were doomed.
Not bad review though :-)

LOL! I could have told u it was going to suck. Horrible things happen when producers start to think they're actually artists. They should sick to the boards. Another nice one. You're definitely getting better... -mad
