Pros: A good choice for a lazy afternoon at the beach.
Cons: No
The Bottom Line: Recommended for teens of either sex as the plot should hold the interest of a group generally averse to reading. Well written, no mushiness and good moral values.

| coffeecountry's Full Review: Clive Cussler - Inca Gold: A Dirk Pitt Adventure |
As far as intellectual statements go, this is probably the wrong book. For relaxation, give it a go. The author has written many best selling books, some of which are awful. This is a good one. It would be an excellent choice for reading on a long and boring flight or perhaps a lazy afternoon at the beach.
Ageless Dirk Pitt, hero of so many Cussler novels is at it again, this time in a variety of exotic locations from the mountains of Peru, to the Mexican desert, ably assisted, as always, by his loyal buddy Al Giordino.
Mr. Cussler's first damsel in distress, archaeologist Dr Shannon Kelsey, is refreshingly PC. She has brains, is athletic, competent and brave and naturally, stunningly beautiful too.
As we have come to expect from Clive Cussler, there are several sub-plots and almost a series of adventures neatly wrapped in one book. Our hero, Dirk Pitt starts this adventure by rescuing the stunning Dr Kelsey and her diving partner from the chill depths of an isolated jungle cenote and is then compelled to rescue himself after everyone else is kidnapped by guerillas. Undeterred he tracks the group through the jungle and, . . . . you really should read this book!
Will our hero survive an earthquake, tsunami, entrapment in an underground river cavern system, and innumerable attempts on his life? Of course he will, he has to come back for the next book. What makes Cussler a good read is his sheer inventiveness. He drops poor Dirk into the most awful messes and cunningly gets him out of them. The baddies are suitably cold-eyed and chillingly bad and the good guys are all gentlemen through and through.
I suspect that Mr. Cusslers research is excellent; this book offers an interesting peek into the criminal world of international archaeological artifact smuggling. Coupled with his gift for believable characterization, imaginative plots and sub-plots and excellent location descriptions, it is a ripping good read!
