Pros: Inexpensive, reduction of fever and pain
Cons: stomach upset, constipation
The Bottom Line: Motrin vs Tylenol When given the final choice I recommend Tylenol Infant Drops. They've been shown to have less side effects and are easier on the stomach for children.

| tnt8's Full Review: Infants' Motrin Concentrated Drops |
Your considering Motrin concentrated infant drops so here I will first give you my story and then I will lay out the positive and negative things about Motrin. As a nurse I am always cautious when giving any medication and always will advise that you consult a doctor before actually giving any medication.
My son was recovering recently from a bilateral hernia repair with work done also to one testicle. He was in a lot of pain, which can be expected after the surgery, and later development of an infection. He was prescribed Tylenol with codeine at first but this can only be taken every eight hours and was affective for only about four. Our
Pediatrician prescribed Motrin concentrated infant drops to be used in a rotation with the Tylenol. Every four hours we would give the opposite drug. Tylenol with codeine- four hours later Motrin- four hours later Tylenol with codeine.
This was effective in reducing his pain but when given only Motrin the pain was not relieved for long.
Motrin is suppose to be effective to relieve minor aches and pains and also reduce fever. Generally people have used Tylenol infant drops for this but Motrin is another option. I would not have survived the weeklong battle with William’s pain had it not been for the two being rotated so for that Motrin won points with me.
Things to remember when considering Motrin:
Negative
Motrin is very irritating to the stomach. Make sure you
try giving food to your child when giving the Motrin
Motrin is an anti-inflammatory and it isn't yet known
what the cause of Rye Syndrome is but aspirin (also an
anti-inflammatory)is cautioned for use in children that
have cold or flu symptoms. They have not yet found the
cause but have ruled tylenol safe for children. Always
ask your doctor before giving it if you are not sure of
the cause of their discomfort
Tylenol concentrated drops will bring the fever down a
lot faster and further than Motrin will
Positive
Motrin is inexpensive and easy to use. Make sure you use
the dropper that comes with the bottle you buy and don't
ever mix different concentrations. Toxic levels of these
types of medications (even tylenol) can be difficult to
reverse
Motrin will bring down a fever temporarily. Be sure to
seek medical advise if the fever does not reduce or if
it comes is over 101 for infants and toddlers
Motrin can be used every four hours. Most fever/pain
reducers are given every eight hours
Motrin is flavored as are most infant drops so the kids
won't object too much to taking it.
Motrin is alcohol free as are most of the infant medications offered over the counter
Whatever medication you choose will be a personal preference after trying the numerous available choices. If considering Motrin, please consult your pediatrician with regard to illness that you are unsure of the cause. Most of the time it is perfectly harmless and will give you the result you are looking for but it is always a good idea to be sure that is what the doctor would choose.
The Motrin worked for my little guy but if given a choice in every day situations I would choose the infant Tylenol.
