Congrats on the Basslink (Reply to this comment)

I would still switch out the power and ground wires with 8 gauge wiring and hook up the rca feed to the preamped outs of your deck. All of this wiring can be found in a 13 dollar wiring kit: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-2/qid=1129011579/ref=sr_1_2/601-7691703-9313736?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00022OBD8 . For install tips check out http://installdr.com/ . You made a great choice with the Basslink. I had mine in my Corolla and Accord years ago and had it sitting for a couple of years in my insect and moisture-infested garage and just installed it in my Maxima. Let's just say it still works like new!!

Hi...
this is an update on my Basslinks tale...when I thought about it more, I knew there was something wrong with the hook-up--AND, I was right! Since my Bud wired it as if there was only one pair of spks...he wired it to the rear channel of the Basslink--this is wrong (according to the "manual")! Then, I looked at the phase switch and reversed it! Voila! Superior bass at last--this puppy rocks!!!
Thanks and see ya later

Hi there!
I couldn't help but notice that you said you have installed a few of these units for other people...Recently I had a buddy install my Infinity Basslink. The manual looked straight-forward enough and I even 'understood' the wiring diagram--but with my lack of tech-ability, I felt better handing over the installation to him. OK, that went relatively quick and easy...
My head unit currently is a JVC KD-G200...and as you know has no pre-amp outputs...'We' installed it by splicing into the speaker wires...only the rear wires, and this is where (I think) we went astray. The manual states that if you are running 2 sets of speakers to splice into both of them...we did not. So, after screwing around with the controls, I reached a very happy point of having a strong 'muscular' bottom end. A first time experience in car audio for me. HOWEVER, the first time I turned off my car...I had what sounded like a heavy feedback coming from the unit. I raced around to the trunk and turned the volume down and this stopped instantly...Now, it seems like everytime I am happy with the bass output, the feedback-problem occurs! Do you think this is because of the way we hooked it up (not splicing into the front speakers)???
My system now consists of the JVC head, Kenwood 2-way, 6x9's, in the rear deck, Infinity Kappa 32.5 in the dash and this Basslinks deal in the trunk of my 19 y/o Olds, Cutlass Ciera. I am going to replace the Kenwoods with a Kappa 2-way 6x9, and the head unit is going to be an Excelon 6-series (I can't wait!!!).
I have read that the Basslinks needs an 8 gauge power wire...I was forced to use 12 because it was the biggest in stock. Will this need to be replaced? When the unit is working, it seems fine; I get quality bass. And when the Excelon arrives I plan on using the preamp outs to run the Basslink....do you think that this will solve my feedback problem?
My buddy, while being a very good mechanic, is almost as clueless as me in terms of car audio...do you think I should get this Excelon unit installed by pros...and get the whole system checked out in the process??? Hook-up and the wiring, that is. If so, who would you suggest? I live in the Adirondacks...a very remote area...I'd have to drive 100 miles to the nearest Circuit City--is this worth it?
Thank you very much! I'd appreciate any and all comments.
the 'ol Mulefool
PS: Geez, I almost forgot...I paid only $219 for the Basslink unit from US Car Audio...not reconditioned, NEW! Just thought you'd like to know. I also got the Excelon for $206...quite a deal, huh?

I was very satisfied to find this review. I have the SAME problem as you...a 2003 Wrangler soft top with no bass. The review was very informative, thanks. I would just like to know where you mounted the sub.

I really liked your review, it really spoke to me. I especially liked the last part about the 1000 and twin 15s...I know people like that.
The examples you gave were real life and practical and help to better illustrate what this unit can and cannot do. I have a Perfect 12.1 in a custom enclosure and love it. I have installed several Basslinks for friends and have been impressed in every application.
Great initial review, I hope to see more, and welcome!

Well thank you! I really appreciate the positive feedback on my first attempt, Megugrrrl, especially from someone with nearly 80 reviews under her belt.
