alacritan's Full Review: Infinity BassLink Car Subwoofer
After looking at a number of sub/amp combos, and considering their value, then looking at as many bass tubes as I could find, I took a look at the Infinity Basslink, and I was very pleased.
The Basslink perfectly suits the needs of anyone who wants to fill out the lower range of their car's sound without investing a huge amount of money, while still getting tight, accurate bass.
The problem with most subwoofer/amplifier combinations, is that to get high quality sound you have to spend a fair amount of money (bare minimum $400-500) and then bother with installation, which for a novice, can be more trouble than it's worth. And if you don't do the installation yourself, it can be even more expensive than you anticipated.
Hence the advent of all in one sub/amp units. The most common type being the bass tube. While this will get the job done, at a decent price even, the quality suffers horribly. Not only are they not as powerful as a normal sub/amp combo, but the sound is not nearly as good either. They're boomy and muddy in addition to being underpowered, the tradeoff made for being inexpensive and easy to use.
Enter Infinity Systems. Infinity has been known for their impeccable sound quality, not only in their speakers, the Infinity Kappas being the most widely known, but also their Perfect line of subwoofers. The Basslink maintains this reputation. They essentially took a Perfect 10" subwoofer and put it in a box with a 200W amplifier. An excellent idea. The sound quality absolutely demolishes any bass tube.
Though it isn't devastatingly powerful, that's a limitation of the price. You can only get so much for your money, and with the Basslink you get a lot. At under $200 many places, you could easily get two for less than the price of a single budget sub/amp combo. Not to mention the sound quality beats everything in the price range.
Installation is simple enough. Just hook it up to your battery and your deck and you're set. If you get the remote, just put it wherever you think it'll go best. It also has a crossover built into it, so that's another thing you won't have to buy. Unlike most built in crossovers, it's adjustable too, so you can decide what sound range the Basslink covers.
All in all, a very complete, high quality setup from Infinity. It beats the alternatives in all regards, and does it for less too. The best sounding all-in-one bass unit available.
