"Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear" The Sequel Is Even Better Than The Original Masterpiece!
Written: Dec 21 '00 (Updated Aug 27 '09)
Pros:Everything about the game!
Cons:None!
The Bottom Line: A great addition to a game that was already excellent. If you liked the first one then you need to try this one.
With 18 new missions, a lot of new weapons, smarter AL, better graphics, and a better replay value makes this sequel to the original Rainbow Six a must for every first shooter game fan. The story picks up where Rainbow Six left off in a campaign type format. The realism has changed a little,in the fact, it got even better!
The biggest difference in this sequel is the replay value. When you finish a mission you will have the option to go back to the mission and not only play it again hoping to better your stats but, you can play that mission in lone wolf (where you are on your own against 30 terrorists) or terrorist hunt (where you and your team go after 30 terrorists without worrying about any hostages). With this new feature you will find yourself going back, playing with your planning phase, and finish it again in the other modes.
The graphics are great. Although, the original game was superior in this department, it doesn't take long for the gaming world to improve. Red Storm kept right up with the world. The game moves smooth and fluent throughout everything you do. If for some reason you find that you have a little trouble in this category no worries, there is lots of options to tweak the graphics to perform the best on whatever system you have. With the snow missions they included in this game, you will really get to see how the graphics really are. With vision being impaired due to the cold weather, you will find it difficult seeing the bad guys at far distances. All the missions are sharp, from the buildings to the rain looking great.
With all the new weapons there is a lot more decisions to make for each team member on each mission. The biggest improvement here is the sniper rifles (which means there is more team members to choose from). Who doesn't enjoy sitting back 200 yards and crouching down waiting for a target to walk by and pick him off. This is actually a must on a couple of missions. Also, another but better shotgun for your breaches. And of course more cloths to pick from with the snow missions. They really did a good job adding enough new weapons to distinguish the two games from one another.
The planning phase is pretty much the same but, how can you improve much on a masterpiece. This is will you will find yourself more than playing the actual game. One nice add on here, is the watch mode. Plan the mission out to your liking and sit back and watch your team perform what you told them to the best of their abilities. Once again you can, tell your units when to assault, infiltrate, escort, blitz, be cautious, or just play it normal. You can still tell units where to frag a room, flashbang a room, breach a door, and now where to sit back and snipe. This is the best feature of any game of this genre that I have ever seen.
The multiplayer option is as good as ever. With more ways to play in multiplayer adds more depth to it. I do recommend not playing in a game or, making one, that has over 8 players if you have a slower computer or Internet connection. But, setting up is just as easy as logging onto the Internet, clicking on the multiplayer option, and you are off. This is as fun if not more fun than playing the game by yourself.
The sounds and music are really good. If you can get yourself a headset (or if you have one use it) and than put the game in. This will add to the realism of the game quite a bit. Not that the game needs improvement in this area but, it really does make it more fun because you can hear all the little sounds that your speakers might not pick up. This is one of the strong points of the game.
This game is rated teen and a must for everyone! If you are looking for a game that will actually have you leaning in your seat when you peek around a corner, jump back when you hear a terrorists that you didn't even know was there, or getting upset when your favorite team member gets incapacitated or killed, you definitely need to pick this one up. Especially at the price.
Thank you for your time.
