Pros:Well designed and easy to use.
Cons:The operating and maintenance instructions are poorly written but the parts breakdown is OK.
The Bottom Line: This is the best impact wrench for the money for a professional car mechanic or a home user.
The Ingersoll Rand 231H is a well built impact wrench. The directions that came with my tool are not good.

The forward and reverse torque adjustments are great. The torque adjustment control valve extends through the handle from left to right. This is also the forward and reverse direction control. Push in on the left side for reverse and push in on the right side for forward. This is one solid valve and when you turn the left side, it also turns on the right. If you turn either side to 5, both sides will be on 5 for maximum power in both directions. If you turn the right pointer to 3 then you will get a reduced forward torque and the reverse torque will be maximum. If you turn the left pointer to 3 then you will get a reduced reverse torque and the forward torque will be maximum. It is not possible to have a reduced forward and reduced reverse at the same time. I set my forward on 2 for car lug nuts. This makes for a nut that is difficult to break loose by hand. I’m also using about 110 pounds of air pressure to the impact wrench. With the reverse using maximum torque it does not take long to remove a nut. The overall torque of this unit is great. The ease of operation is great. The sound level is good. The weight is good for the amount of power it packs.
It has a grease fitting on the rear side of the tool but I have no idea how much grease to add. The previous Epinions rating mentions an oil mist reservoir in the handle. I am not aware of this reservoir on my impact wrench. I normally add oil to the air entrance and then attach the air hose and blow it through the impact wrench. The oil went straight through the wrench with no delay. It does not appear to me that any oil was retained in a reservoir.
The exhaust comes out of the bottom of the handle next to the air intake.
An in line oiler may be advisable. Air tool oil should be used rather than detergent motor oil. I picked up an in line oiler at Sears for $10.00. They also have the oil.
After extensive on line reviews the Ingersoll Rand appears to have the best impact wrench for the price. Eighteen wheelers and race car drivers might need more but this tool is more than anyone needs for automotive work. It is more than adequate for the professional mechanic. As a home garage mechanic I like it because of the torque control, the ease of use and the apparent longevity. I think it will last a lifetime if no detergent oil is placed in it.
