I’ll be the first to admit I am technically challenged. Son Santa apparently tired of me borrowing their MP-3 player when we travel and purchased this Shift3 MP-3 Video Player. While I appreciate his thoughtful gesture, it is beyond me.
The Merits
Supports MP3, WAV, WMA, AMV, and JPG.

The Disadvantages, for me
The screen is minute. Once I finally figured out how to download a photo I couldn‘t see it anyway. If I were even vaguely interested in loading videos, that just boggles the mind on how difficult it would be to view.
The instruction manual is equally tiny. I had to use a magnifying glass to read it, finally resorting to loading the instruction manual from the software disk and printing it out. I am still looking for instructions on “how to” do anything. Sure, they offer plenty of ways to enjoy the features, after they have already been loaded into the player, but, for those of us that aren’t computer whizzes, how do you get them there in the first place?
Download is s-l-o-w. Just 15 songs took forever to load into the player. The previous MP-3 we used loaded in a snap but this took about 5 minutes to load the same 15 songs we had previously loaded in the MP-3 before in about 1.5 minutes.
It is hard as the dickens to move from mode to mode, once you have landed somewhere. After a while I simply gave up, turned it off, and then went to the mode I wanted. Really not that big a deal since I want this for music only, but if I were ever tempted to use any of the other features I’d be stuck.
Some other features
It is small and compact, measuring 4”L x 2”H x .40”W, so you barely notice you have it around. It comes with a long neck strap so you can loop it around your neck and don’t have to worry about losing it. The earbuds are hard plastic, but I’ll just replace them with my softer earbuds.
Sound quality is outstanding. It is clear with no fuzzy or scratchy distortions.
I like the fact that you can do your own voice recording so it would make a handy note taker while you are traveling and have that last minute thing you think about and will forget before you get home.
It has a lot of storage for photos, videos and music. The photos can be displayed individually or on auto play.
Warranty
The warranty is only 30 days which isn’t that great.
