The Intex pool covers are great for keeping out leaves and debris..not to mention cutting down on algae buildup. An uncovered pool becomes an algae bloom magnet.
Keep the chemicals going and always cover the pool when not in use.
NOW, the problem...If it rains or water gets on top of the cover, you suddenly have many gallons of water on top of the pool's swim water. The water on top will have all the debris and leaves that you don't want in the pool. How do you get the cover off?
You can try to bail the to collected water out...in vain most of the time. When trying to remove the cover, the water seems to just build up even more until you have a hundred HEAVY gallons that are trying to gush into the clean water underneath.
NOW THE SOLUTION...Pick up a 50 foot length of thick cord(about $3) and stretch it over the top of the pool in each direction(or as many times as you wish) before putting the cover on. Now the cover will have a support system between the cover and the pool water. If it rains, the cover will not just sink further and further down into the pool; the tiny drain holes in the cover will work and a problem will be avoided.
The Intex pool covers are a MUST for all above ground 12 and 15 foot pools. However, I strongly suggest using the cord setup to avoid having the equivalent of a bathtub full of water to bail out when weather causes a problem. The fact is that you can not stretch the cover tight enough to create a flat surface above the water so rainwater just "rolls off". The cover will be in contact with the water and will collect all rain than comes down...and a 12(or 15)foot "bucket" collects a whole lot of water in a short time!
These covers are very durable and should last more than one season(ours has lasted two so far).
