I bought an intex pool with an inflatable top ring and the ring disintegrated in the sun after two years. The sunburned inflatable ring failed and the pool dumped all the water overnight, flooding the area. Beware of sun problems with the inflatable top!
The pool was relatively easy to set up and fun to use (although I did have to replace the salt water filter system as it never worked adequately for the amount of water in the pool). It also was not deep enough to swim laps even when fully filled (I had the 40' x 48" high elliptical model). My goal was to have a small lap pool for exercise, but it became more of a fun party pool.
The body of the pool was still in great shape after the failure of the inflatable ring. I have been looking for a replacement pool with no inflatable ring (such as the Splash brand pool) but they are considerably more expensive (although they do have a warranty which the Intex did not...). As I live in an area with 30" to ground water, I am looking for an above ground pool that will last more than two years and can be used for exercise.
Bottom line - if you live in an area with intense sun (like Arizona/New Mexico) beware of the effects of the sun on the inflatable ring.
