cmicahjohnson's Full Review: Iomega eGo 1 TB USB 2.0 Hard Drive
After my Maxtor drive died taking along my iTunes library, I needed to shop for a new external hard drive. After doing some online browsing, I came across the iOmega eGo. Having some experience with past iOmega products, I felt safe in the purchase.
Retail price for the drive at Fry's electronics was $109. It quickly 'plugged and played' with my Dell Laptop without having to download any software or make any configurations. It runs very quietly and is very compact. I will have to rate performance of the drive over time and as usage wears on.
Also, the company offers online back-up services which is very appealing since loosing the data on my former drive. Though, the service offers only 2GB of back-up and the drive holds 1TB of data, I am trying to determine the usefulness. I have had some difficulty getting registered so I have not yet explored whether there are other options. With registration, it also comes with a 3-year warranty.
Purchase of the drive also grants six months free use of McAfee, EMC back up software and iOmega Quick protect in addition to the anti-virus and online back up service. I am currently using Norton, so I did not attempt the use of McAfee nor have I had the opportunity to utilize the other services. Though, they are, as the insert reads, included with the purchase of the drive - at least for an introductory period if nothing else.
The only complaint I have so far is that the power operates independently from the computer it is connected to And the DC adapter is not a slender fit for a power strip/surge protector. But, so far I am satisfied with the purchase and I do not have buyer's remorse.
