I picked up one of these I.R.I.S. Floor Protection Trays when I was purchasing more training pads for my puppy.
Before using the tray I noticed that although the training pads do soak up the urine, if the puppy pees too close to the edge, there is some run off, and the run off seeps beneath the training pads, which can make for a messy clean up.
The I.R.I.S. Floor Protection Tray really does help protect the floor or even a carpet. It comes in two parts. You simply place the training pad on to the bottom half, then place the top half down onto the training pad, which is no more than the tray's border with clips on either side so that it won't come apart and secures the training pad in place.
My puppy would when she was in "one of her playful moods" grab the clean training pad and run with it and then start shredding it. The holder keeps the plad in place, and the puppy can't get at the edge of the training pad. The I.R.I.S. Floor Protection Tray protects any floor in case the pup or small dog pees too close to the edge where it can run off.
I have two of these Floor Protection Trays in my house (at either end) and my puppy learned very quickly where they are kept.
The plastic is sturdy and very easy to clean. It's pretty much like a litter tray for your pet without the litter.
Mine is light blue with a white top and since it is very flat it isn't that noticeable.
I can't see using training pads without using this I.R.I.S. Floor Protection Tray. The whole system of wee pads (aka training pads) and floor protection tray makes it so easy to take care of pet especially in harsh weather where you don't particularly want to take not only your pet by yourself out into it.
The cost is I think quite reasonable as I paid no more than $13 for the I.R.I.S. Floor Protection Tray .
