| njchicaa's Full Review: iRobot Scooba Replenish Kit |
We bought our Scooba last year on the day after Christmas which just happens to be my mother's birthday. We were looking for a Roomba for her but all of the stores were sold out so we somehow wound up buying a Scooba for ourselves instead. We were extremely happy with it for the first six months or so, and then we noticed that the robot wasn't cleaning the floors as well as it had before. After perusing the company site, we discovered that they sell a Scooba Replenish Kit to help you keep your floor-washing robot in tip-top condition. We bought one and hoped that it would restore our Scooba to its former power. It did.
What Is A Replenish Kit?
This kit contains 3 new wheels (two regular and one front caster), 2 new squeegees, a new vacuum port, a new scrubbing brush, and a new brush cover. After six months of almost-daily use, the regular tires were worn down to nothing and the Scooba slipped as it tried to propel itself forward. The brush, squeegees, and vacuum ports were filthy despite the fact that I cleaned them after each use. This kit addressed all of the performance issues that we were having with our floor-washing robot.
I personally didn't install it into the Scooba. My boyfriend did that and it took him all of about 10 minutes to do so. I figure if he could do it in 10, I could probably get the job done within half an hour which is still a respectable amount of time.
Was The Scooba Replenished?
The short answer is: yes, it was. The robot did a much better job of scrubbing and moving along the floor with the replacement brush/housing and wheels. The new squeegees and vacuum port picked up more debris which meant that I didn't have to follow the Scooba around to pick up bits that it left behind. Before we bought these replacement parts, I was dismayed because I had spent almost $300 on the machine and it worked well for only about 6 months. The Scooba Replenish Kit restored my faith in the device and eradicated the buyer's remorse that I was experiencing.
Cost and Availability
The Scooba Replenish Kit sells for $29.99 on the iRobot company web site. I haven't ever seen it available locally in the stores that sell Scoobas or the Scooba cleaning solution.
Overall Opinion
This collection of replacement parts is definitely something that Scooba-owners will want to purchase to maintain peak performance in their floor-washing robots. It is reasonably priced, easy to install, and an effective way to maintain your Scooba's cleaning ability.
