Pros:Thrash Irritation...
Cons:This isn't something everyone will like... and thats too bad.
The Bottom Line: If you liked In/Humanity, and thrash noise, this is for you, if you like none of those things, then why are you reading this?
"Dead "... and that one word opens this album. Dead can mean so many things but ultimately mean one initial thing... but its better that you don't understand, its better that you just forget about it.. you/ I/ we... are better off dead...
The sonic banshee screams of Chris Bickel kills and disrupt the "mentally stable " and leaves the unstable feeling slightly comfortable... to give you another idea... my cat jumped off my lap as I turned up the volume, and she ran into the other room (eh, her loss ). The onslaught of "Better off Dead " (the lead song ) is so important to this album it has a sequel "Better off Dead (Two)".. which both blend in so well with each its almost hard to tell them apart.. although (Two) sounds like the awakening of a million slumbering bats, keep in mind the attack is just beginning.
This album is filled with great stabs and pokes at humanity and its society so there is wonderful satire here... ("S.S.B ", "Remote Control ", "Turn you a Blind Eye ") backed with Bickel's ever so glowing theory of "Smashism " (plus a huge friggin booklet). "Irritainment... " is very different but strangely similar to Guyana's first blood "Maximum Smashism "... "Irritainment... " seems to brand together a single concept more effectively. And by reading this booklet (great pictures, and artwork by the way ) and hearing this "disturbance " ...there was a lot of crafting that went into the music as well as the conveying of thoughts and politics into it.
On this album... everyone gets theirs; Cops, Politicians, and even the punk rock scene. Guyana Punch Line take their shots at a buffed jackass punk scene Filled with things that are just wrong. Taking the fight to the "emo" fashion wave, and the sad self-pity lyrical writers of this disgusting display that has recently hit media airwaves... yes emo the fashion, and the repetitive music needs its rightful punches to the gut... ("Tears On the Backpack ", "Are you Brian Emo? "), but hey remember the phrase "emo violence " In/humanity coined? Yea well... don't get it confused... this thrash is killer!
To add to the disturbing melodies, Guyana Punch Line take a few exerts from media sources (and use devices such as an remote control, glass harmonica, and even the Smashist Spider Ladies Choir + other things ) and fit them all nicely into the destruction force (that wouldn't be possible without them ) "Can't have one without the other, no "?
Song after song you are blasted, and harassed... meaning kids who lap up Hatebreed-like Hardcore are gonna hate this (there is also some past there. )... doesn't really matter though, Guyana Punch Line are giving this scene the sex it needs, what I mean by that is Guyana Punch Line are doing the savior thing and succeeding ("Punk Rock Sloganeering " take a listen to that and think about what you have done with yourself.) and ("Home F@#*&ing Is killing Prostitution ")... take that rock-stars! "Skate the state " adds energy plus... what can the pigs do when you got 4 wheels? Also fitting in the explanation of "New Attitudes Towards Noise " give a listen to that as well. Just as "Seven Bowls " hits you, its like everything is all closing in now... you want those voices in the beginning of the song to shut up... then the guitars and voice destroy everything:
(Lyrics from "Seven Bowls " )
"To Fight the system you must have a system. To fight the system we must build a system. To fight the system we become a system. "
(The Concept is as clear as day... but are the listeners?)
The noise is something that if played loud enough could turn a massive amount of heads... ( hell you could play this at a minimum volume and still get your mom to yell at you)... If that happens tell your mom to shut up, cause Guyana Punch Line are talking right now...
