Because I have vascular rosacea (a condition that causes facial skin to be easily irritated, red, and dry), I don't have many choices when it comes to anti-aging skin care. For example, AHA's, tretinoin, and even mild vitamin C creams can be too harsh for my sensitive skin. Over the past few years I had been using a mild GLH-cu copper-peptide cream by the Skin Biology brand in combination with a budget Neutrogena daily moisturizer. A few months ago, however, I began to take note that my skin wasn't winning the war on aging. Fine lines around my eyes had become deeper and wider and my skin tone had become dull and lifeless. After seeing Isomer's Rejuvenation serum heavily touted on ShopNBC and after doing some of my own research I decided to give this product a try.
The Product:
Rather than being a moisturizer, Isomers Rejuvenation Serum is an anti-aging serum that should be applied to the skin beneath your daily moisturizer/makeup. Isomers Rejuvenation Serum has a silky consistency that is quick to fully absorb into the skin. Like Deramapril, Dermacai, and a number of other products on the market, Isomers Rejuvenation Serum's claim-to-fame is its all-star ingredient: Matrixyl 3000. Matrixyl 3000 (an ingredient patented by Sederma) is supposed to increase collagen production, reduce wrinkles/fine lines by double digit percents, and increase hyaluronic acid in the skin, thus increasing the skin's own ability to produce moisture: all without being harsh to the skin.
Isomers Rejuvenation serum comes in either a .51 or a 1-ounce glass bottle that is dispersed via a dropper. Only a small amount of this product is needed (approx. 5 drops) so a full-size 1 oz. bottle will most likely last two months or so when used in the morning and at night. Isomers Rejuvenation Serum can be used virtually anywhere on the face and body. Though Isomers does sell a Matrixyl formula specifically for the eyes (has a lower percent of Matrixyl 3000), I have found that the Rejuvenation Serum is acceptable for the delicate skin around the eyes.
Isomers' Claims:
Isomers claims that their Rejuvenation Serum "Targets lines and wrinkles while helping to smooth, tone and plump the appearance of the skin."
My Experience:
Efficacy Rating: 9/10
Because I was not being able to find any independent studies substantiating Matrixyl 3000's ability to improve skin, I was very skeptical about spending nearly 50 bucks on Isomers Rejuvenation Serum. Said skepticism, however, was short lived. Within just two weeks of incorporating this serum into my daily regimen (includes just a light copper-peptide moisturizer and a mineral make-up), I noticed a more vibrant glow to my skin, a dramatic increase in elasticity, and a noticeable reduction in the fine lines around my eyes and forehead.
It has now been just a little over 2 months since I first began using this product and the changes in my skin have been nothing short of remarkable. My skin's glow is back, the few age spots that I had on my forehead have faded substantially, my skin feels soft and supple, skin elasticity (especially under my eyes) has improved, and best of all- the fine lines around my eyes have almost disappeared.
Gentle Rating: 10/10
For being such an effective anti-aging cream, Isomers Rejuvenation Serum is incredibly gentle. Even if I use it right after taking a shower (when skin is most vulnerable to a product's ingredients) Isomers' rejuvenation serum doesn't make my skin feel tight nor does it give my skin that red appearance like so many popular anti-wrinkle treatments do, i.e. tretinoin. This product is fragrance free and contains no alcohol: perfect for those with sensitive skin. The only slight issue that I had initially when using this product was some mild swelling around my eyes in the mornings, however this side effect quickly went away after a few days of use.
Livability rating: 10/10
One thing I absolutely love about Isomers Rejuvenation Serum is how incredibly light it feels on my skin: there is no greasy or sticky feeling after use. This product also absorbs almost instantly into my skin which enables me to apply either powder or liquid makeup within ten minutes post application. It should be noted, however, that if you use more than the recommended dose of 3-5 drops this product could become sticky. That said, stick to the recommended 3-5 drops for the entire facial area and neck, especially if you plan on wearing makeup: in this case more is not better.
Ingredient rating: 8/10
Ingredients: Water, Linum Usitatissum (linseed extract), Glyceryl polymethacrylate, Proplyene Glycol, Palmitoyl ogliopeptide, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.
These ingredients all check-out as safe according to my own research, however I do wish Isomers would choose something other than parabens as a perservative. Why? While Parabens are GRAS (generally referred to as safe) by the FDA, these preservatives have been in question for some time now. I would much rather Isomers aire on the side of caution and go with a less controversial preservative.
Gripes?
Other than my very slight gripe with Isomers' use of parabens, I have just one other gripe with Isomers' Rejuvenation Serum. The ingredient Matrixyl 3000 doesn't have the shortest shelf life on earth, however it does lose its effectiveness after time and for that reason every Isomers Rejuvenation Serum bottle should come with a posted expiration date - it doesn't.
Value: 10/10
Unfortunately Isomers Rejuvenation Serum isn't widely available, at least not offline. Online, however, you can get this product at a few stores, i.e. ShopNBC, Isomers' website, and Amazon. Isomers sells this product for $39 for the .51 ounce bottle and $49.99 for the full-size 1.0 oz bottle. While $49 is a little steep for a mere 1 ounce of product, Isomers Rejuvenation Serum is among the lowest priced serums on the market that contains Matrixyl 3000. Also, one 1-ounce bottle will most likely last 2 months if used per instructions: making it an affordable $25 or so per month.
Overall: 9/10
Though this product could do without the parabens, Isomers Rejuvenation Serum is an excellent tool in the war against the visible signs of aging. Not only is this product effective, it's easy to live with, gentle, and the price is affordable. My final recommendation for this serum goes out to anyone who would like to see a more youthful appearance without the side effects of tretinoin and many of those other aggravating anti-aging ingredients.
