Vasilis,

Thanks for reading the review and for your comments.

Given the choice, I'll always take listening to the original Beatles' recordings over any cover versions.

...a most comprehensive and helpful review. Great job Don.

But. A compilation of other singers performing Beatles songs? Hmmm...

I mean, we're talking the Beatles here. Not some composer of note or maybe a successful songwriter but - the Beatles. Part of the immense joy of listening to their songs is their performing them. They, not somebody else. They, in their unique instrument playing, their inimitable singing and, in later years, even their own engineering. When someone else performs a Beatles song all we have is a rendition of the melody - all else is lost.

I can happily discuss whether Kleber's reading of Beethoven's 7th (as an example) is 'tighter' than Karajian's; but to debate whether the Kings version of 'For noone' (as an example) is (even) as enjoyable as the original, seems kind of pointless. What have the Kings done - changed the horn to a trumpet - or did away with it altogether?

To be fair, I haven't listened to the album/s you review. Maybe every track is as far removed from the original and as musically worthy as Joe Cocker's stunning 'With a little help from my friends'. Somehow, reading the list of performers, I suspect not.

Just my take, of course :o)

Sorry I am late to rate this, but I have to tell you that it is a great review. It brings back memories. My oldest boy was in a high school band at the time that did pretty well locally. They played for high school dances, College frat house parties, teen birthday parties and such. My son put himself through his first year at Ohio State from what he earned with that band. The point of this is that one of the kid's father was a policeman who was assigned to guard the Beetles when they played in Cleveland. He got some great shots of the group behind the scenes, and you can imagine how the boys treasured those pictures - and their girl friends even more. I loved every word of your review - Great job as always.

Hey Robin,

I wish I had seen The Beatles on stage --- I can only imagine how exciting that was.

The Beatles defined my generation (Reply to this comment)

Sounds like a CD I need to get. I'm showing my age, but I actually got to see the Beatles when they performed on their very first U.S. tour in '64 on Miami Beach for the Ed Sullivan show. Yes, I was one of those insane girls with the funny glasses that they always show in those grainy old black and white films! I am sure I would really enjoy this tribute to them.
Great review!

(Yes, I know it doesn't have anything to do with the Beatles...)

We just loved listening to Branigan, and couldn't believe she had died so suddenly.

Might you be reviewing one of her albums soon?

It's amazing that it's really been 40 years since I was standing on a folding chair, waving my sweater, and screaming--and almost wetting my pants when George looked in my direction (not literally--just an expression! LOLOLOL)!!!

Thanks for alerting me to this album! Gotta get it into my life!!!

Hugs!
