| penguinman's Full Review: Itech 675 Tech Lite Senior Smu Combo '02 |
I received these shoulder pads (along with 675 shinpads) after the blokes at Hockeymonkey.com ended up not having the cheaper Itech models in stock, so we decided to split the difference and call it a day. Long story short, I got these pads for significantly cheaper than they should have been sold for. Given that, I can't really rate them on a cost basis. What I can rate them on, however, is their protectiveness and their mobility.
The pad is pretty light, and once I put it on, I never seem to notice it, which means that it is doing its job as a pad. In terms of protectiveness, they certainly seem to help quite a bit. Even in the no check leagues I play in (college kids playing no check? Please!), there's a fair bit of hitting, and these pads have held up well between the hits i dish out and the pounding I take in front of the opposition net. The shoulders aren't quite as mobile as the higher end JOFA pads I've tried on, but they are still allow enough movement to allow them to see double duty as a roller hockey chest protector. They are very protective, however: after going into the boards at speed shoulder first many a time, I must report that they have done a very good job at keeping my arm in its shoulder socket where it belongs.
Overall, it's a very good pad, and if you can get it discounted, I highly recommend it. You may find the JOFA pad more mobile, but I'm quite sold on this pad after the beatings I have taken. Then again, at the standard price, you may be able to find better pads for the money.
