Pros:Gentle, cleans well, economical
The Bottom Line: For a pure, no nonsense soap, turn to Ivory. Its pureness will be gentle on the skin and its simplicity is welcomed in a market full of hyped-up soaps.
I grew up with Ivory soap. It was the only soap my mother purchased for us, so we used it day in and day out. As an adult, I have ventured off to using other soaps and body washes but will always appreciate Ivory soap for its simplicity and pureness.

Ivory soap is a simple white bar of soap that is 99.44% pure. The soap is available in packages of 3, 4, 12, 16, and 24 bars. The soap is also available in 4.5 ounce bath bar and 3.1 personal bar sizes. The pack that I usually purchase contains 12 bath bars (each bar weighs 4.5 ounces). The price varies in price from $3.00 4.00 and is widely available at drug and grocery stores.
- The soap that floats.
- 99.44% pure.
- Simple. Naturally clean.
- Leaves skin feeling naturally clean.
- Contains no dyes or heavy perfumes or lotions.
Sodium tallowate, sodium cocoate or sodium palm kernelate, water, sodium chloride, sodium silicate, magnesium sulfate, and fragrance.
A side note: The list of ingredients for the soap was very difficult to find. It was not printed on the individual bars of the 12-pack nor was it found on the outside packaging of the 12-pack of soap. I looked online on the company website (www.ivory.com) and was unable to find it. I finally was directed to the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) at the Procter & Gamble Company and located the ingredients from the MSDS sheet for Ivory Soap.

Product information taken from product packaging.
Ivory soap is a very mild soap; it is white and it really does float if it is dropped in a tub of water. It lathers up with use of a washcloth and soaps up easily. There is a faint, clean scent to the Ivory soap. It is without much of the heavy fragrance additives that are commonly found in the more typical soap of nowadays. The Ivory soap washes off easily and leaves skin feeling clean. It does not leave behind a filmy residue on skin. The soap does not add moisture back into skin like other soaps (like Dove), but it does leave skin feeling very clean.
When I had a bout skin problems the dermatologist suggested using Ivory soap as it is one of the most gentle soaps on the market. She recommended Ivory soap because of its pureness and lack of heavy fragrances. She stated that a lot of the soaps on the market now contain too many chemicals that are quite irritating to the skin, stating that Ivory was the safest way to go with sensitive skin.
What is nice about Ivory soap is that it is gentle on the skin, economical, and does a great job cleaning. The only con is that it is a bit boring when compared to the other soaps on the market.
For a pure, no nonsense soap, turn to Ivory soap. Its pureness will be gentle on the skin and its simplicity is welcomed in a market full of hyped-up soaps.
