grasster's Full Review: Iwata - Eclipse Series HP-BCS Airbrush
I have used the Iwata Eclipse HP-BCS Airbrush for a little over 5 years and would recommend it to most everyone. The Eclipse HP-BCS Airbrush was first recommended to me by an instructor of mine who's been using it since it first came out back in the late 90’s. When I first got started in airbrushing I’d bought a cheap badger airbrush at a local art store and had the hardest time with it. The spatters and the inconsistency were enough to drive me crazy. It was then that I forked up the money and decided to get some actual airbrush classes. My instructor laughed when I told him about my experience and introduced me to the wonderful world of the Eclipse Airbrush.
For me the biggest plus of using this airbrush is the versatility. I'm able to use the Eclipse on projects ranging from fine-art to automotive detailing. I love how I can instantly go from a pencil-thin line to a 2-3inch wide spray without having to switch airbrushes at all. The Eclipse HP-BCS is also quite durable. With proper care your airbrush should last forever. I still have the one I bought 5 yrs ago and have only had to replace the cone and needle a couple of times. Another great feature of the Eclipse HP-BCS airbrush is the fact that it's dual-action. This allows the greater control and precision than that of a single-action airbrush. Yet another great quality of this airbrush is its ability to handle thicker paints. I use a variety of paints, from hand-mixed acrylics to the thicker automotive paints, and it performs perfectly with everything I use.
One of the other HUGE pros for this airbrush is the price. At $80-$120 it is probably the most affordable, professional grade, airbrushes on the market. While there are cheaper brands of airbrushes on the market, like Badger/Pasche, if you're serious about getting into the airbrush world and you want to have a positive experience I would definitely recommend getting the Eclipse. IWATA is known for its quality airbrushes and the eclipse series is no exception. I’ve tried many Iwata airbrushes and have never been disappointed.
The eclipse airbrush also comes in a top-fed version. I prefer the bottom-fed due to the amount of colors I use, but that is just my personal preference.
In conclusion, the Iwata Eclipse HP-BCS Airbrush is an airbrush for anyone who wants a versatile, durable, and economic airbrush and I would recommend it to anyone.
